A different introduction video.
A different menu with different music and sound. It has an interface that shows different imagery, and uses a different text font.
It seems a little bit different. In example, there's a more basic version of The Lighthouse survival arena. And there are minor differences in how shadows are cast, and how lightning, colour and shading effects are displayed on screen.
There are different models of characters, items and textures, and things make different sounds. In the original you can see the lower part of the character model, if you aim down. It also has different tumble animations, and shows less explicit visceral effects.
The play is less obscene, and has different system requirements and programming, and responds somewhat differently.
Most of these differences are very difficult to notice. But I think I can see them.
Anyway, no real point. Probably should just make it so you can only buy both games together at the price of L4D2, and if you own L4D2 then you automatically own L4D1. But again, no real point.
Your second point doesn't make sense at all. Players rather play L4D2 than L4D1 because L4D2 has the same contents as L4D1 and even more than that. Making 1 free to play wouldn't exactly increase its player base, as they could get the (kinda) exact same game and more if they just pay for the second game. It's not that expensive to get, specially in a sale.
This would make 1 just some sort of trial before buying the second game. Players wouldn't stay playing the first game if they end up buying the second, and the ones that would do, are basically the same ones that are playing it now. Not to mention it'd attract randoms and trolls. I know free to play games don't exactly leads to attract bad, random and troll players, but it's more likely to happen in them, as it's open for everyone to play.
and you think just because a game goes free it instantly gets flooded with randoms and trolls?
so might as well make it free
