its been 2 years after the release of the "The Last Stand Update" im wondering if l4d2 will come out with another major update. Will there be another l4d2 major update?

probably, but given the hostile feedback it might not. I still don't get why people were so upset about a content patch that mostly fixed bugs and added maps. It is really ridiculous and probably sabotaged the future of community updates for this game with their temper tantrum.
TF2: * Laughs in no major update in 5 years * :steamhappy:
no because it doesn't need one

I dunno man. More bug fixes, maps, and maybe even things like more difficulties sounds great to me. Game certainly isn't perfect, I still find myself battling common infected stuck in an object who are unbashable and I know I would love an update to fix that.

I'd argue it does, especially since the CSS weapons are still in need of a large amount of polish, Hard Rain still uses the wrong common spawns for the return trip, and the L4D1 survivors are using the p220 and g26 as opposed to the m1911 and p85, on top of the bigger gameplay-oriented issues.

There's also the campaign Dam-It (if Valve ever figures out the required legal steps to restore it), as well as some unreleased mutations.

considering they turned over the game to "community" starting with "Cold Stream"...
I'd say Valve's finally done with it.
not even the so called "developers" of Last Stand have full access to everything.
they have to improvise their "fixes" and whatnot and still have to send them in.
we only have one or two people officially left who still actually work on the game.
game is over ten years old now.
even Steam "Support" was hopeless and doubtful when contacted about things.
Steam and Valve themselves admitted giving up on technical support.
based on some experiences I believe the game's finally run its course.

I don't see this ever happening officially either.
Unless they contact one of the other users in the community who did actual work.
Yea, legality / copyright might be one thing.
But other people took it over when it was first released/leaked.
Heck, even I and at least one good friend would have some credit.
Not trying to brag, however, technically we got the first port out.
Which then later inspired at least 2 others to "complete" the campaign.
Ours was just a simple direct port to see how it'd even work in Left 4 Dead 2.
Still happy it later inspired others to pick up where we and Turtle Rock left off.
Although would that even be a problem considering they took over the whole game?
Valve took over Left 4 Dead from Turtle Rock, so, you'd think it'd include the campaign.
Even if the campaign was separate and happened later...
Maybe that's the legal concerns, how much rights did Valve acquire...

They're poking 1 valve employee with a stick essentially. And yeah feedback is rough and a lot to unpack.

It fixed bugs alright, but not the one that really needed fixing; how the bot si and still scratch you after getting stumbled, commons during 'mantling obstacles up' animation or crouching are immune to being bashed, L4D1 female commons are not syncing properly with their attacking animation, etc.

Aside from adding more voicelines to the game, it was a bit underwhelming to me. I expected more.

I doubt Valve would consider or really acknowledge any of the community iterations simply for legal reasons verifying sources, however I could see them putting a community team together with direct oversight to finish up the content they can verify as being made in-house.

Now as for why it exists in a legal limbo, its likely for the same reasons as why Microsoft didn't actually have most of the assets from Halo's Development until Digsite Happened; a lot of the content was likely never stored on Valves internal server, so when the relevant employees left, so too did bits of their projects go with them.

Or, they couldn't put a source to some things, like with Cold Stream.
That was what inspired the "missing content fix"...
Somehow, it's magically okay to release content separately.
Confusing how it works...
Problem to have certain stuff fin the game, but okay separately in workshop.

Reminds me of the controversy of Helm's Deep.
Many of us remember Serious Samurai's theft of Helm's Deep.
He couldn't have the music in for legal reasons back then.
Yet strangely enough, Steam doesn't seem to care anymore.
Even when one of the original developers made it perfectly clear.
After it was passed down to others, he stated not to include such content.
