M16 is what you take if you want to run out of ammo, the damage is really bad even if you fish for headshots which you could do with the AK anyway. You'd be better off with the Silenced Uzi over the M16 solely because of the extra 200 ammo the uzi has along with similar damage.
Uzi is more likely to headshot commons in your face too the m16 is too accurate for its own good. You can see similar CQC issues with the snipers, you want lower accuracy in close to mid range even if it sounds counter-intuitive. Accuracy only matters in long distance which is rare in this game and even then the m16 sucks for long range firing due to the low damage.
TL;DR: it sux get a silenced uzi or ak instead or even a SCAR, SCAR is everything the m16 wants to be.
Ak47 is for 🤓
the AK has the best damage and is the easiest to control in terms of squeezing off single shots. an AK with a laser sight is considered the best weapon in the game (behind tier 3 weapons such as chainsaws and chain guns)
the only REAL advantage an M16 has is that it reloads super fast, which has niche/gimmick advantage when fighting special infected in vs.
Lol there's literally no drawbacks in getting laser sights for weapons, once I find one that weapon is mine for the rest of the Campaign. Also, Valve mentioned this in their commentary that laser sights help others know where your aiming so its easier to avoid friendly fire damage.
