Should I buy L4D1 before this?
I've been interested in this game for quite awhile now, honestly surprised I haven't tried it yet. Before I go and make the purchase though, Should I buy L4D1 first?

No.
no, playing l4d1 isn't necessary

play l4d2 and only buy l4d1 if you really enjoy l4d2

Only if you want the genuine experience as there are some differences between the original campaigns and the ports, but they aren't game breaking.

No, L4D2 has all the old campaigns anyways. You are missing out on new infected and weapons. I literally cannot think of a single reason to ever buy L4D1 in this day and age.

yes why not

especially because of mods already bringing most of the content that used to make l4d1 more unique like LEGS / older models / textures , older map layouts, etc.

+ the AI of l4d1 is literally worst than the l4d2 ai meaning that bots are waaaaay useless compared to l4d2 ai bots on vanilla dedicated servers , making the experience wayy less enjoyable if you are playing lonely.

Yeah, as mentioned. For most games you get two different games.

For l4d2, they included l4d1 maps as well as all missions and dlc from both games into l4d2.

There are some major minor differences between l4d2 and l4d1 i think. But they're pretty much minor things

1. No spitter/jockey/chargers, those were added in l4d2, this means that most of l4d1 rewards camping and specials can't split you up.

(Though pretty much that does also mean quad incap teams are FAR more likely with 3-4 hunters/smokers)

2. You have leg models. Though this is re enablable with mods. most people don't really care.

3. Shotguns were stronger in l4d1 and had much more powerful and one of the best weapons. They basically did 2x more damage, had 2-3x more ammo, In l4d2, t2 shotguns are good at 1 shotting witches (crowning) or perhaps bursting 1000-2000 hp off a tank or charger.

T1 shotguns are one of the worst primary weapons in l4d2 but one of the best in l4d1.

4. No stamina bar for shoving. i think you could pretty much shove endlessly in l4d1.

Tl;dr: L4d1 vs L4d2: l4d1 has leg models, turtling, less disruption specials, and stronger shotguns.

L4d2 has the maps from both games, adds specials to both modes, pvp infected are less likely to have quad incaps / 4 hunters.

If you have l4d2, you don't really need l4d1 to experience l4d1 maps unless you want leg models.
no. but if you like l4d2 you can pick up l4d1 at a later date. they have enough differences to justify playing both.

It's not entirely necessary, but you can only do so much with mods to make Left 4 Dead 2 like Left 4 Dead. There are gameplay differences. Considering that Left 4 Dead goes on sale for very little money, I'd say it's worth getting on a big sale. Left 4 Dead 2 came from somewhere, ya know?

yes its defo worth a try, there may be a bit less on the weapons end and its -3 special infected

but they feel way different in experience especially for versus i find l4d1 overall more enjoyable

without going into too much depth these minor changes have a much harder impact on the gameplay experience especially teamwork as you have no reliable method to save yourself

which yes im aware the infinit shove can arguably be much stronger but a mlee weapon can deal with a horde in no time while infinit shove only delays the inevitable (open to specials teamates coould be dying etc)

TL:DR yes its worth it although you have acess to the games content in l4d2 the true
co-op experience of l4d1 just feels so much better and overall balanced (despite sniper shotgun)

Merry Christmas
L4D1 is awful anyway. Community is dead, bugs beyond belief, AI is very antiquated and it just lacks content
