CTD || Windows 8.1 || debug.log included
I've been having errorless CTD's since the newest Steam Client update.
I have tried uninstalling my add-ons, reinstalling the game, verifying the game cache to no avail.

Here's my latest debug.log file:

Am I the only one still having this issue? Jesus Christ, might as well stick with Overwatch once it launches.

you should look at your windows event logs too.

Computer Management > Event Viewer
- Windows Logs
-- Application and System

Application and Service Logs
- Hardware Events

That should give you a better idea as to what is going on.

I've just checked, and Hardware Events is empty. Applications, as well as System, only have "Information Events" on them, save for a single error in creating a scheduled Restore Point.

that doesn't sound right. if you are crashing to desktop there should be more logs.

wait, I missed a "Office Licensing Service" error, as well as a "DNS Client Event" warning

other than that, there are several DCOM errors from 2015

go into Services and Applications then Services make sure that nothing is turned off that should be on.

i.e. DHCP client, DNS Client, Performance Logs and Alerts, Steam Client Service, System Event Notification Service, Windows Error Reporting Service, Windows Event Collector

I've set Performance Logs and Alerts and Windows Event Collector to "Automatic (Delayed Start)". The other services are already set to "Automatic".

Hopefully they'll help the next time I crash to Desktop.

are you playing the game behind a proxy service?

No.

Right, I've noticed that everytime I crash, I get a minidump file in my Left 4 Dead 2 installation folder named "left4dead2_assert_XXXXX" where XXXXX is a timestamp.

I've opened these minidumps in Visual Studio 2015, and I've tried "Debug with Native Only", but I only get a dialog box saying "The operation completed successfully" and it's not telling me anything at all.

I've also updated my graphics drivers earlier today.

I'll get back to you in a while, I've uninstalled and reinstalled .NET 3.5, and did the Registry changes indicated.
Seiso May 14, 2016 @ 12:49am
Nope, it still crashes to Desktop and adds another Assert minidump.

I reckon this has something to do with the latest L4D2 patch, or the latest Steam patch - which is unlikely.

yeah i'm stumped.
the only other thing i saw talked about was a language pack, but given your name you are probably from the west.

did you ever change the default install directory? or maybe your steam directory is on a removable drive?
Seiso May 14, 2016 @ 12:53am
No, when I set up Steam I made sure to put the default install directory in my hard drive, as I use a SSD for my OS.
