Versus Sucks?
Iv'e played about 38 hours of L4D2, mostly on Campaign. Then I decide to try versus. After 3 games without ragequitting (It was hard), here is what happened:
Game 1: Playing on Dead center from the beginning. My team is mostly new players like me, and the other guys are a group of higly coordinated friends. My team does awful, and everyone but me has left by the time we get to the mall. Then some guy shows up and starts berrating me over the mic like f*cking Gordon Ramsay because I am new and havent learned how to play. Some other skilled players join in, and I am trying my best not to quit. Eventualy the a**holes leave, and some of the guys on the other team take pitty on me and decide to switch teams. My team loses, and I feel awful.
Game 2: Playing on dead center from the end of the appartments. I start off with barely any health and a magnum. My team is right by the saferoom and we make it without incident. On the next level, I get pounced/grabbed a lot and the team starts to doubt me. Once we get to the dumpster, one teammate and I get pounced and are left to die. The rest of the team all dies by the gunshop. Then they call a vote to kick me and I get disconnected.
Game 3: Playing on Dark Carnival from the beginning. As soon as I join, I see the other players discussing who they should kick. They then unanimously vote me off 10 seconds later.

Can someone please explain why all versus players seem to be such a**holes? Do I need to get better in the breif time before I get kicked? Do others have to try to tolerate a new player? Please feel free to say your oppinion.

This has been discussed over and over.

People should and will kick you if they want to. Either because they need your slot or because you aren't good enough yet to keep up with them.
Just keep in mind that Versus is very competitive, and one mistake by one player can lead to a complete wipe out.

If you want a "good start" in Versus mod, here is what you need to do :
- Finish all Campaigns (more than once) in (at least) Advanced.
you'll know the map layout, the basics strategy as Survivor, and you will be better at covering.
That's IMO the point when you stop being completely useless as a Versus Survivor.
- Find some friends to play with.
Add the people you play Campaign with, find some good Versus players who are willing to teach you. It's will be better than the pub games full of stompers
- Warn that you are new in Versus.
So the people with you can give you advice and know they'll have to cover you more.
- DO NOT LEAD
Let the experienced players go ahead.

Thank you very much. Since I am a much more casual gamer and don't want to have to train for weeks just to be "worthy", I'll just stay the f*ck away from versus an let the experienced gamers have their fun.

There are people around here you should add to your friends list who play casual vs just for laughs and chat. If I recall there is a group called nice players around here somewhere. You team up with them to not have to worry about competitive aspect. Said players tend to not mind even when playing against competitive bunch. They are just there to play and nothing more, win or lose. Not that I am saying I'm one of them just they're out there.

I don't see a problem here. If this does not motivate you to become better then what will? No,we don't have to tolerate new players if we would rather have a better player and a better game.

You'll have to understand that PUBBING means you have to be prepared to join a random game, with random people of a random skill difference than yourself. There is no system implemented in this game that seperates new players from experienced versus players. So naturally this leads to conflict among them that is often solved aggressively by both sides because both people don't want to deal with each other in the heat of real time decision making.

Frustration and competition can bring out the worst in people, that doesn't mean they're bad people, that doesn't mean they wouldn't be friendly to you under less frustrating circumstances, that just means you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course some people are genuinely mean spirited ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but thats the kind of person they are regardless of if they use this game to express that characteristic about them.

For your casual enjoyment, youre just happy and content being allowed to play, and thats it. For other players that enjoy really competing, they enjoy a close competition and they will need people on the same page to have that enjoyable experience for them, if youre a beginner playing with experienced players against experienced players then youre going to be the weak link they will need to over compensate for. It would be the same as going up to a group of strangers playing basketball in real life and asking "hey can i play with you guys?" and one team allows you to play with them only to find out that you have no idea what youre doing.

The solution here is to not be one of those people that casually go into pub games of versus and expect them all to be as casual as you personally are. Random pub games are RANDOM. They can be casual full of noobs, they can be competitive full of experienced players. Rather than playing russian roulette until you draw your perfect game, just make the kinds of friends that relate to your playstyle and play to your hearts content with *them*.

Don't call versus bad just because youre trying to assert yourself into it as a beginner to the game and become frustrated with the resistance youre being met with.

also if you search the workshop and these forums there is a single player versus mod out there somewhere.

Yes, Versus sucks. I'm good player (well, mostly), but ONE damn mistake = kick. And I suck as infected (especially Hunter), but I'm quite good Tank (if spawn is good). Tank in open spaces is just plain bad, no matter your skills.

Sorry but you are daydreaming right now.
53s means your team cannot get more than two attacks before you commit and die, 38 rocks for 463 games is extremely low (and that's maybe why you can't win in the open), and you probably don't play with throw-ables well enough because it's not too much of a trouble to get a 20k max damages with them in the right situation.

On a side note, start by getting better as a survivor before learning the infected side and you won't be kicked as much as you could.
In other words, go play Campaign.

I just block everyone cheating or being ♥♥♥♥♥...the versus community is filled with people using "Ping Maskers" bogging the net down causing the game to lag for everyone, people using "anti-boomer goo vision" allowing them to see through boomer goo clearly without the green tint...thinking it's legit because "valve" doesn't remove it from the workshop...people exploiting stuff in front of doors with tanks, or blocking off events so you can't progress claiming tobe "good" players when they rely on cheating not skill....the games fun..if you don't like that stuff..do as I do...and like I'll be doing to anyone who complains about my post..they will be blocked.

Play on advanced first? I started on Realism Expert...nearly 3,000 hours...all my achievements were on realism expert...people like you I hate playing with..I bet you exploit the game to hell to. I tend to be the top player every game and use no mods to help me, no exploits......it's a pub...who the heck joins to pub stomp besides noobs?

It's not COMPETATIVE unless it's ranked..these are not ranked matches..people like you need to get a life..I've done competative play..people in this are are a bunch of NOOBS who act like pro's while using every exploit, and mod to make the game easier which isn't skill..it's cheating...90% of the Versus community cheats in some form..it never fails 3/4 players have the anti-boomer goo vision mod from the workshop which gives them a slight advantage..not to mention if they are willing to us a mod like that to cheat what else are they doing...

If you want COMPETATIVE PLAY ...join tournaments...not pubs

However...I agree...they should expect to be kicked by noob ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because it's the net and filled with trolls..I just personally won't do it because I like teaching new players how to play LEGIT..and could easily pub stomp..I just am not like half the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ community who kicks new players...I like a challenge...

Like in Realism Expert the group "Realism Expert" is a bunch of noobs who only can survive by exploiting the games getting in spots where they can't be hit...while I'll be leading the team doing things legit...than they want to brag how good they are and how they only want players with 500 hours plus...which is why I block almost every player I see that's part of that steam group. I've got nearly 3,000 hours in this game..and a majority of the "good" players suck in Versus and Expert Realism and the only way they can win is exploit the game to hell.

The games filled with a bunch of "fake pros" who think they are good at the game and all they know how to do is troll and act like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥...I've found some players on par with me that don't have to cheat in any form..and we tear up the game..but most players in this game are just straight up cheaters and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who get on new players...most of which have over 1,000 hours + and wouldn't you think at that point you'd want the game HARDER? I know that's why I like NEW PLAYERS..it makes the game INTERESTING for TRUE PRO's who like a challenge.

Not to mention you run into all these hacked servers and HENTAI RAPE SERVERS, and LETHAL INJECTION servers where it messes your settings up....I seriously..have so many people and server IP's on block from this game it's not even funny.

I love this game..but the community is ♥♥♥♥.
