Subtitles/Captions Not Working

I've seen many posts about this problem but none contain any solutions. I can see the boxes where they would be but there are no words in them. I've also seen there was an update previously that suposedly fixed it but I installed the game a month or two ago, am up to date, and still have this problem. Any advice at all?

Had the same problem here. Changing the steam interface language to english worked for me. However, if you don't want to change it (like me), you can try this on the developer console: cc_subtitles 1 and cc_lang english. I'm not sure if the Cvar will work, though. I got english subtitles, but the game interface (menus, floating mesages) is in brazilian portuguese.

Eh just another necro. Change around fullscreen or borderless screen and restart the game.

in "cc_lang" you write the language you speak in English for example

"cc_lang portuguese" or "cc_lang
