64 bits version needed for Mac OS
Are there L4D devs/ops present in this forum? Any chance to get 64 version of Left 4 Dead 2 for macOS? Update to Catalina is not allowing to play 32bit games anymore and a lot of people play L4D2 at work on their macs.

I am pretty sure this should be a question of rebuilding the app with a different set of parameters (hopefully). I would appreciate this very very much, great game and everyone loves it!

Rebuilding a program from 32 to 64 bits should be a half an hour work in my mind. Ok, probably a little bit more, but in properly maintained project it should be a simple task. I am curious what are the problems.

Unfortunately that doesn't hold true to complex software like game engines, especially old ones like Source that are full of legacy code and dependencies.

Source itself isn't very well managed with a ton of engine branches with different features added over the years, and a lot of the code is ancient, tracing back to the HL1 and Quake engines. There was a lot less room to abstract and standardize interfaces back then, so I'm expecing the code to be full of bleeding edge hacks.

It's full of obscure packed binary data formats that need to be read right, and the physics and sound engines are both ancient versions of third party software. Even if they got everything working, it would take ages to verify and test it.

I'd imagine it would be way less work to port L4D2 to Source 2 than to even attempt to get everything working in 64 bit.

Don't play games at work. Valve indirectly taught you a lesson.

Who uses a Mac at work? Maybe you meant "In School"?

Your school had macs? Did you go to a rich kid's highschool or something?

Anyways, I use macs at work because it's a superior environment to windows. Linux would be better, but the new Apple Silicon hardware is too new for proper linux support and literally any Intel/AMD laptop would sound like a jet engine and overheat if I open a third chrome tab.

IMO if I can't play a game on Mac or Linux, it's not worth playing.

He can do what he wants. You need to teach yourself a lesson I’m minding your own business.
