64 bits version needed for Mac OS
Are there L4D devs/ops present in this forum? Any chance to get 64 version of Left 4 Dead 2 for macOS? Update to Catalina is not allowing to play 32bit games anymore and a lot of people play L4D2 at work on their macs.

I am pretty sure this should be a question of rebuilding the app with a different set of parameters (hopefully). I would appreciate this very very much, great game and everyone loves it!

Unfortunately that doesn't hold true to complex software like game engines, especially old ones like Source that are full of legacy code and dependencies.

Source itself isn't very well managed with a ton of engine branches with different features added over the years, and a lot of the code is ancient, tracing back to the HL1 and Quake engines. There was a lot less room to abstract and standardize interfaces back then, so I'm expecing the code to be full of bleeding edge hacks.

It's full of obscure packed binary data formats that need to be read right, and the physics and sound engines are both ancient versions of third party software. Even if they got everything working, it would take ages to verify and test it.

I'd imagine it would be way less work to port L4D2 to Source 2 than to even attempt to get everything working in 64 bit.

Can't Wine emulate 32 bit? If so just play L4D via Wine.

Not gonna happen, they dont fix game issues for everyone, why would they fix the game for like <2.5% of all steam users..

I haven't heard if L4D2 will be updated with 64-bit support. In the mean time, here's some information that includes potential workarounds:

Steam and macOS 10.15 Catalina

To all the people who annoyingly post holiwar comments about mac vs pc - go do something useful, I don't need your advice how to live my life and yes, I have a top pc which I use to play at home and I work on Mac.

The only thing I wanted to hear if developers can comment on that. As a developer myself I am curious to know is it hard to build 64 version of L4D and what the problems are. But apparently such topics attract only company of Mac haters.

Why would Valve waste time bringing l4d2 to 64 bit for a playerbase that is so low, when they don't even care about fixing game exploits that have been on the game for 10 years? Like, come on dude.

You dont understand, theres tons of well know bugs they dont fix..
Why should they waste resources to benefit 2% of the community?

Think about it..

Rebuilding a program from 32 to 64 bits should be a half an hour work in my mind. Ok, probably a little bit more, but in properly maintained project it should be a simple task. I am curious what are the problems.

So again, my question is to Steam devs and somehow I am getting answered by not them :(

Us old timers know Valve doesn't care to maintain older games that don't have loot-box garbage like Team Fortress 2. But since not updating the Mac version to 64-bit would actually hurt sales, there is a very slim chance they MIGHT (key word here) do something to fix this.

Don't play games at work. Valve indirectly taught you a lesson.

People are answering you because there is NO DEV TEAM here..
You are out of your mind..

btw: Dont expect official response on a community forum, dont make any sense..
Go for steam support and you will get your official 'NO"..
