Steam Input issue

Has anyone experienced the problem with the Steam Input "Pause Game" action not working on any OS? I cannot pause the game when playing with a Steam Controller or Steam Deck without binding it as the ESC button and then it freaks out because it thinks I'm mashing the ESC button between entering and exiting the menu.

Has anyone been able to solve this issue? On the Steam Deck, I had to bind the start button as ESC and unbind it as the unpause button in the menu just to get some sort of pause functionality. This doesn't happen in any other Source game on Windows or Linux.

Oh my lord. It's been a year already. Any news so far? It seems to happen rather randomly than specifically. Either it works or it doesn't.

I was having this problem with my steam controller and somehow my Gamepad setting got turned off in the Keyboard/Mouse settings. Once enabled my pausegame command started working. Hope this helps

I had this problem in Phasmophobia. There were two sets: "In-game" and "Menu" and I had to set them up in a way that one of them has "ESC" action and the other has controller's "Start/Options" action

I found a Solution that works for me. In the main menu head to the Mouse/Keyboard settings and just turn off the gamepad. Hope it works for you too.

,, any solutions? I think it has to do with me wiping all the keyboard bindings in the keyboard/mouse setting but when resetting it to default, it resets to to the typical keyboard default, and NOT the steam deck one which had names for all the inputs

I think I managed to fix it but I can't remember how, it was so simple. If am not wrong it's just by resetting the layout of the in game binding and then resetting the input layout of steam os, then you select it again (the default layout of the controller of steam os) and it should work.

I think I found the issue, on the steam imput thing, I mapped the ≡ button (im using an xbox controller) to esc for both in-game controller & Menu controls. I probably could've explained better but I hope this helps!
