I have the censored "german" version of L4D2 and I would like to download the "uncut" patch

Hi community,

I was gifted the German Version of L4D2 a few years ago from my good friend.
Now that the uncut version is free to sell in Germany, I would like to download the patch.
But I'm from Austria, so I can't access the page to download the patch!
Any help will be appreciated...

No, sadly it doesn't work.
I would probably need a VPN so my "location" would be germany...
Really sucks, because I like the game alot and would love to be able finally to see the full gore experience.

There is a mod you can install to add gore back for the censored versions, left4gore its called i think

apparently back in 2021 they re-appealed the game and got it uncensored, but you have to apply a DLC from the properties menu on L4D2 from the library or something

Yes, you have to download a DLC from the store to make it uncensored.
But, said DLC is region locked to Germany.

you might try using a VPN and unlock it for your account like that.

but either way, you should contact the support about this issue. the censored version has a its own steam sub id, so it doesn't make no sense to lock the uncut patch for you. it's obviously an error on their end.

Okay. Then Steam support cannot help you with that particular request.

Is there is no way you can return the gift? Maybe they can take that back, if you "propose" on paying for those expenses yourself, and then maybe you can buy the version that you wanted?

If not, then there may be no other alternative, then to play the censored version on that account, or by modding it in some other way.


Also, have you tried changing your download region, and then re-downloading the game title? (After uninstalling the title first.) Surely, that "download region"-setting should have some purpose? Why else would it be there, if not to change your download region?

Or maybe changing the language to English before downloading the free DLC? Maybe that does something?

Valve recently requested that German authorities re-evaluate the game Left 4 Dead 2. We are happy to let you know that as a result the uncut international version of Left 4 Dead 2 is now available to our customers in Germany. Owners of the game in Germany can download this free DLC to update the game if you wish to do so.

Komischerweise wird die Shopseite als nicht verfügbar angezeigt, dennoch funktioniert sie. Gehe einfach auf die Shopseite von L4D2 und scroll runter auf dlcs, da findest du den uncut patch

In case anyone is curious, and can't translate for some reason, they said:
"‎Strangely enough, the store page appears as unavailable, but it still works. Just go to the shop page of L4D2 and scroll down to dlcs, there you will find the uncut patch‎".

Versuche den Steamsupport anzuschreiben ob es die Möglichkeit gäbe das sie deine Version austauschen, schildern ihnen das genauso wie hier auch. Da wird es sicherlich eine möglichkeit geben, falls nicht, dann musst du wohl oder übel das Spiel aus deinem Account über den Support entfernen lassen und neukaufen damit du nicht das Cut problem hast. ^^
