Animated Gif From Video ( Video to GIF )
how do i make a clearer version of an animated GIF taken from a video be it a movie , Tv shows , video games and anime i did some test of multiple of them and when i sprayed the GIF In-game it turns out to be heavily blurry and pixelated like i can't see the action and the characters of what they are doing i know it's not possible to do such a thing but i'm willing to give it a try

so a user on discord in one of the server have said this to me

Youll have to upscale the gif, which is a looooot harder to do than with a static image, considering were working with layman tools
Images look a lot blurrier in game than they do on your image viewer, so the trick for a fine looking spray is to cram those pixels in
For example a big image (ex 2000×2000) is needed to create a high quality 256×256 spray
Using the vtf converter, at a certain point the pixels reach critical density and you get the same file size for sprays of a certain size regardless of the original image's size. Ex: critical density 256×256 sprays are always 512kb
Therefore you have work with tradeoffs between pixel density and file size, and its very tight

Say you want to upscale a gif
There are online tools for that, some label it "gif upscaling" while some just say "gif resizing"
1. Pick one, you can check later if the result is satisfactory in an image viewer
2. Upload your image to the service and resize/upscale it. Check the "keep aspect ratio" box. The 2000×2000 is just an example, you dont have to follow it to the letter. Look at your image, its not a square, its aspect ratio isnt 1:1. Get you gif to have at least 2000 width or smth like that
3. Download the finished product, and check if the gif was really upscaled, instead of just being stretched
4. Upload it to the vtf converter, see if the file size is within the limit. If not youll have to edit the upscaled gif, reducing its frames and such until it can be made into an acceptable vtf.

Hi, I make my own gif and I can tell you that so far the best method is using a software called Krita, that's because it uses a plug-in which let you create high quality gifs. For example if you go on my profile you can see that my artwork is an heavy and relative high quality gif I made, with a normal software, when the images are too complex, the quality will be really low and colors will be glitched. The only problem is that with Krita I only know you can do a gif by using layer animations but I honestly don't know how to do it from pieces of videos. You might want to see if some editing programs can let you create animation frames or split up the whole animations in pictures. I saw a tutorial about it but I wouldn't reccoment it since you should use a site. Online tools are very very limited, I can tell you this because when creating a gif for example you won't be able to choose its framerate, while with the right software you can select the framerate so that the lenght of the gif and the smoothness of the animations are right

i did used ( ezgif ) website an online tools to Resize , Optimize and Split it into frames
but still could not get a clearer high-quality GIF

so the software ( Krita ) i never herd of it i was wondering does the Time frame within the video also plays a role when making a high-quality GIF is too lower the timer so that it will make the animated gif alot smoother and cleaner say like the video is 20 minutes long of an anime tv show and i cut it into 30 seconds or 1:00 minute there are certain parts/scene.

Well I cannot assure you a higher frame rate equals to a smoother gif or animations and that's because you need to keep on mind 2 factors. 1) fps might play a huge role when creating fast scenes where movements are so fast you only see portions of them 2) the initial framer ate of your video. You video might be 25 fps for example and then that's what you want to keep to not change things.

I always wanted it at
60fps and your right about some scene and parts of videos coming from those entertainment content are fast and slick that is what i am aimming for to get a slick & smooth animated GIF but below 30fps is also fine

And the 3rd one is the resolution as well right i've set it too 2000×2000 kinda big for a video to gif animation as it doesn't fit very well to the standred
256×256 even 1024×1024 i have tried so 256x256 is max limit of a custom spray can handle go even higher and it will look really weird and extremely blurry.

You should definitely lower the resolution. I always did my spray 256x256 because I was following tutorials. I have never tried anything with an higher resolution
Sparkey Sparks Dec 28, 2021 @ 4:06am
I've tried doing a few custom resolution with the second auto intact sorta like this

256xauto
2000×auto
3000×auto
5000×auto
6000×auto
7000×auto
+compression quality
Slow & Fast
and yet the results for each of them with different gif size and resolution has turned the custom spray when posted on the wall

Extremely small enough for the naked human eye can see through
looking like seeing the furthest star but you can't

Well the main problem is reducing the size, it will make anything smaller and I suppose also lew resolution too. But that's kinda strange because mine was probably 1920x1080 and it didn't lose a lot when making it a spray

the only two tools i used are both from these sites

1. https://rafradek.github.io/Mishcatt/
autoxauto , 256x256 , 1024x1024 and 2000xauto
Texture format: DXT1 (One bit alpha)
Sampling Method: Default
Compression quality: slow & fast

2 .https://ezgif.com/
( Video to Gif , Resize , Optimize and Split ) is the 4 things i have used so far and the results are extremely pixelated minecraft-like GIF Spray.

Uhm sounds very hard to do, I honestly have no idea on how to help you

wait so you have tried with a 1980x1080 GIF Spray on the wall in-game before like anywhere with multiple sprays of yours.

No sorry, I have tried with an high resolution image imported in krita and resizes to be exported in the right format. I created my own gifs but not to use them in games

Ohhhh i was hoping a GIF would work in-game since i've made some test with it testing it multiple times with different sizes and still not even close tob a clearer and clean high-quailty post without any little issue or performance of the piece of art on the paintings on the walls but it seems it's not gonna happen maybe due to the limitations of the source engine and the game overall file size.

Well gifs do work in game so I don't get what's the problem with yours. We should ask to someone who actually managed to import a gif in game and see what he did. Maybe the gif too must be exported in the image's format used for the game

Ezgif the site i used
What i did was the following Section 1
( Video to Gif )
Size: Original ( up too 600px )
Framerate: 5fps ( max 60 seconds )

Section 2: ( Resize )
File size: 18.36 Mib
600xp , height 339px
Frame 290
Width 256 & Height 256
Percentage: 75.5
Resize method:
Gifsicle ( faster , smaller file size

Section 3: ( Optimize )
Optimization Method
( Loosy Gif )
Compression Level 36

That's all i ever did.

5 fps? for a piece of film? I am not sure it is the right thing. Usually films are recorded with 25 fps and I am pretty sure the gif is too long for the game to upload it
