Connection failed after 10 retries, Want permanent solution
I've been dealing with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ problem for several months now, I constantly have to change the client port setting in the launch options to work around it and im ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick of it.

Verifying cache doesn't work, Reinstalling doesn't work, Resetting firewall settings doesn't work, Manually deleting setting files doesn't work. I need someone who has found a solution for this that can fix the game for good.

I once had this problem, it seemed that just resetting my router was good enough. But i'm guessing you have a bit of a more serious problem?, as that would probably have been one of the first things you did... if not, try it?

Edit:
I could not even launch a single player map for some reason without that error popping up.

Restarting the router changes which +clientport value works in the launch settings, The ports change because your ISP treats you as a new connection after being inactive for a few minutes.

I've found a couple of leads, One claiming that some custom servers from steam groups cause conflicts with the matchmaking system because they override the values set by valve, Thus leading to dead connections and the problem itself, So abandoning steam groups and disabling steam cloud for L4D2 before uninstalling and reinstalling should do it, Im about to test that one. Disabling steam cloud is required so the reinstall doesn't have any odd functioning config files that may carry the issue over.

The second lead was a guy claiming that changing his steam name temporarily fixed the problem until he turned off his pc, Someone else advised him to use the +hostport 27005 command on the launch settings and that worked for someone else who commented on the thread.

If this is happening only in game its a micro disconnect and cant join back in game cause your IP is still in the game. You have to wait a few minutes for the game to know u have left or restart steam is the fast way. If know the server u are playing on and are quick at taking a look you will still be in game even thou are are not.

The recent update fixed the issue for a couple of days and then it came back, Im still using the clientport commands so you could try those, Right click L4D2 on your steam library and select properties, Then type +clientport 270XX in the launch options, The XX mean any number from 05 to 30, Except 20.
Same issue have you fixed it since 4 years ? If yes how
Will he get his answer quickly? Or will the mods lock the thread faster because of necro?
Find out next time on left4dead z
What fixed the issue for me was changing computers when i upgraded to a new rig, you may need a full reformat.
