Is hyperx cloud II a bad option still if I'm not an audiophile? Past 50$ in headphones I can't tell the difference, lol. Also open back vs closed, doesn't matter to me, as long as one is better than the other for footsteps...

It's not a bad option... loads of streamers and gamers use it because it's literally one of the best of out there...

This is a good post. Asking yourself whether or not you want open-back headphones is an important question.

Personally, I'm a planar magnetics fanboy and a HiFiMan fanboy, so I recommend that type of headphone drivers and that particular brand.

List of headphones that I've owned and/or tried and liked:
  • Drop + Sennheiser PC38X - has a mic ($170, but €200 to get it all imported to Europe). Blows all the garbage gaming headphones like HyperX, Logitech and Razer out of the water
  • Sennheiser HD 599 (€180)
  • HiFiMan HE400i (€200)
  • HiFiMan Sundara (€350)
  • HiFiMan Ananda (€700)
  • HiFiMan Arya (€1600)
  • Sennheiser HD 800 S (€1300)
  • Focal Clear (€1200)

The majority of these headphones need a serious amp and dac to be properly driven and to get the most out of them. Right now I'm a big fan of the Focal Clear.
What do you think about akg k612 pro possible better option than hd 599 or not ? thank you
I've not tried the AKG K612, I have however owned the AKG K702 which is around the same price as the HD 599. I prefer the HD 599 over any AKG I've tried, that includes the K702. The K702 are very good for gaming, because of the large sound stage. Tracking foot step noises and other noises in general was fanastic on the K702. I hated the way music sounded on the K702 though, it was really bland. The HD 599 on the other hand has an "inviting" and "warm" sound. I would go for the HD 599 if you like listening to music and doing competitive gaming. It's good for both.

From what I've heard they're decent, especially for the price. Are these wireless though? I have not heard a single good mic on wireless headphones, they all sound like garbage.

It's not wireless. Well, at least the old one isn't, it actually has a very long cable, too long for some though. The wireless version recently came out a few months ago but it's way more expensive.

Keep in mind that regardless of what headset you choose, it's not gonna affect how the 3d sound works within the game. L4D (same as most games as far as I know) only uses stereo effect to indicate the direction and decreases the volume to indicate the distance.
That means that, no matter the headset, you wont be able to tell if the sound is emitting from below or above you, and also a sound directly in front of you sounds the same as one behind you. Players actually determine the exact horizontal direction by moving the camera even slightly, the brain picks up on that immediately. (But the up-down thing pretty much just comes down to map knowledge, it's completely unintuitive)

So ultimately, a really expensive headset wouldn't make too significant of a difference over the one that's just decent. You just need a headset that you can comfortably use at higher volumes.

I would pick one of these (hd599 or k612 pro) but which one should i get can't decide yet
I'm personally not a fan of AKG headphones. The build quality is fanastic, but I'm not a fan of the sound signature. It's lifeless and bland. I would go for the HD 599, but going to the store and trying them both out would be better.
