I didn't know about the AOE for killing multiple! That does indeed sound good in the early parts of a chapter.
Okay! I will watch out for those chapters and make sure to try it out
Worst ---
Classic Knife - Short reach, Slow, Copy Pasted from CSS to L4d2 and later remodelled and
put in csgo case CS20
Pitchfork - Very Long, Slow
Shovel - Very Long, Slow
Tonfa - Short Reach, Slow, Knockback force is not strong
Crowbar - Short Reach, Slow, Copy Pasted from Hl2 to L4D2 and retextured
Best ---
Katana - Long Ranged, Can kill multiple zombies in one swing, Long Knockback force
Machete - Long Ranged, Can kill multiple zombies in one swing
Fire Axe - Long Ranged, Can kill multiple zombies in one swing, Slow
Guitar - Long Ranged, Can kill multiple zombies in one swing, Slow
Frying Pan - Short Ranged, Can kill multiple zombies fastly, Slow
also, afaik, every melee has the same range.
Katana isn't actually that much better than machete in terms of hit rays, as the second swing for katana(up to 5 ticks) is actually worse than that of machete's(up to 6 ticks). However the third swing for machete is really, really bad(up to only 3 ticks), which you'd think they're in a tie, but since machete swings faster than katana, I'd say machete wins.
As usual, consult this guide for melee analysis. It's a bit outdated, as it contains pre-TLS state of knife info, missing shovel and pitchfork, but overall, really good analysis.
