-vanilla versus is extremely unbalanced in favor of Survivors;
-L4D2 as a game is way more jank than CS:GO;
-moderating toxicity in online gaming is nearly impossible;
-there is no incentive for l4d2 to have a ranked vs mode, because most of the players are either born with tunnelvision and have no situational awareness or have little or no idea of what they are playing, much like TF2.
-CS:GO has a system of levels and people can make profits off cases & skıns merely for playing. L4D2 does not;
-People leaving for any reason isn't going to stop them in the future. Bans of any kind only work if they are permanent.

I could tell you long year gamers here in l4d2 with long time account and thousands of hours who cheat 100% even nowadays and in vanilla games. For example one of these dudes nick begins with "h" and ends with "r"... :-) but that´s enough name and shame.
Question is, how would this work with the community? You now suddenly have friends being split apart or just downright not allowed in the game. If you add this, you pretty much split the playerbase in two.
... Not that finding two relatively balanced teams was easy to begin with. It's too old, the servers are stuck at an abysmal 30 tick, the weapons/health items are not balanced, ect.
There actually was a mechanic like this though, and it's still in the game; 'Team Versus'. You would make a team with your friends and wait for the game to find another team willing to face yours. This never worked however, because nobody uses the system anymore. In-fact it didn't even make it past a year before it was never used again.
I'd say I respectfully agree with a ranked system; If only it was on a better engine and networking. A Left 4 Dead 2 episode 3.
my issue is how would you even make it consistent as much as id like to avoid haveing 1 team filled with freinds with good experience and the other side being on 0 hours getting destroyed because there clueless
and in the end dont think most people would want this
with a game that has an inconsistent rng system and already has bad balence between infected and survivors
how would you really determin a players skill when most things are random the only skill things would be is being a bit more consistent with your shots and dead stopping
if you could somehow magicly make this work accuratly and efficently then sure
but even at that l4d2 isnt a competitive game and dosnt really have a competitive players ether outside of speedrunners (if that even counts) and T1 servers (being an attempt to balence out versus more)
and in the end most people might not even accept it
Team versus was always doomed to fail, because it requires 4 people queueing up together, that can be a situation but not easy to achieve and will increase the matchmaking time greatly, you need to have a solo queue, just think of dota 2 when you think of left 4 dead 2. Just apply all the same rules, if you leave too much or something (I don't know the exact punishment) but the Idea is the game puts you in leaver queue and you have to play with leavers since you are a leaver yourself. And all the other issues you mention can be fixed by Valve, they know what they are doing, but they just need to do it, They added ranked to team fortress 2 after a long time, how it turned out? The game is well alive and doing good, I mean they can do the upgrade necessary.
About other comments for the other people:
Smurfing: can be solved, exists in every competitive environment, with enough reports moderators can take a look at the player but the better thing about smurfing here since this is a team game you cant just smurf it all the way alone, so It will not be so easy to smurf when your success is dependent on 2 or 3 other people.
VAC: Can be updated obviously. And cheating is a problem in COD Warzone too. So pls. there are solutions for this...
Toxicity: Exists in most games like in league of legends, overwatch etc. Does that stop them from existing? No they are making tons of money. Just enough reports on one person to get them banned should sufficy. It's easy to setup numbers, or to raise a red flag after lots of reports... These issues are fixed years ago as I said and hence why these games exist. CS GO, lol, overwatch team fortress 2.
Leavers: A leaver queue fixes the leavers. Or timeout the repeated offense, first leave 10 minutes, then 30 minutes then 1 and 7 days etc. I mean they can work this out.
Ultimately, As Sharpie The Draggie said, If they work on it and upgrade some stuff, they can put a good ranked mode with the qualifications required where people can solo queue and enjoy a ranked L4D2 Versus environment where leavers do not exist. Please stop saying it such that it is completly impossible to create a L4D2 ranked mode. They added Ranked mode to team fortress 2 after a long period of time then would it be impossible for team fortress 2 too? that game is way older than left 4 dead 2. Maybe it is time for Left 4 Dead 2. They can do it if they want to. And I know many people would enjoy it.
I understand your point of view but I think you can't imagine what valve can do when they want to. But will they want to? Hopefully maybe they will see this thread and give it a go. Since Back 4 Blood is not what people expected after all those years.
