Of course we're not playing this seriously. I just explained to you why.
Yeah, I’m not either. So I don’t know why you’re launching personal attacks at me just because I proved you wrong about L4D2 being an eSport. :steamsad:
It is not a personal attack. I merely explained how it works. If you want to play e-sport, you need to be in a league. Non of you guys are even in a league, if I understand this correct. So, you don't get to play it as a sport. It is just a game for you guys.

Why don't you join the ESL then, if you want to play a competition?
Because I have a job in a Fortune 100 company and I love it.

This is what you don’t get, mate. Competition does not equal you have to be in a tournament every single time. Competition is exclusive of prize money and tangible rewards. Please for all our sakes, go to the dictionary and read up the definitions.
We're not mates. You just do not seem to understand it, if you're trying to be a pro-player when you're not even playing in a league.

True, I once watched a whole Versus tournament with veteran playersof like 25+ teams and the winner team was getting some sort of prize/money. That was a lot of fun..

You can always fool around. It doesn't matter if you're friends or not. It's a game about the zombie apocalypse, with people attacking each other with frying pans and guitars, and spitting "goo" on each other, for crying out loud. It is not to be taken seriously.

It is a clearly a joke game, meant to screw around in. People that do not understand that, lack a basic sense of humour, unable to grasp parody. Even the names of the achievements are a dead give-away, that it is a joke that is trying to screw with you.

If you're trying hard in L4D2, you're trying hard in the wrong game, and do not really understand what the work is about.

This is an incredibly selfish attitude, no thought for the other 7 trying to get a good match.

Why does a prize need to be there for comeptition?

Cometition means to compete against others. A prize has noting to do with it. The act of competing is the reward for a lot of people. Dont need no carrot on a stick to enjoy it more.

Then we’re not. Not my problem if you want to be hostile.

Anyway, here. In case you’re still confused:

It is a competition though.

You are playing against an other team, and only one team can win, that is literally the definition of a competition.
A tournament need not be ongoing in order for there to be a competition. You have the two terms mixed up as the same thing when they are not. A competition needs to be there in order to have a tournament, but a tournament need not be there in order to have a competition. :steambored:

Sure, it can be a competition. But it doesn't mean it is played as a competition. It is meant as a joke. A parody.
If you want a competition, you need to join a competition first. Not just casually play a game.

You need to sight up, pay money, get sponsorship. All those things. If you do not have a sponsor, or are not part of a leageu, it is just a game. Without any form of serious competition.

He doesn’t get the concept or definition of competition itself. Thinks there has to be a tournament ongoing in order for competition to take place. :steamfacepalm:

TBH when I join a Versus match I simply try my best as if I was on Campaign.
Actually it may be a tad more intense than just that since I often get anxiety on if I am doing well enough or not, as opposed to Campaign where I don’t care too much. Especially applies when playing as Infected.

This is where I put the nail in the coffin.

Versus is a competitive game mode. The description literally says that and the server even shuts down if there isn’t at least one player on both sides. If you disagree, go take it up with Valve. That’s not my problem anymore. :steamfacepalm:

Crazy right? And do you see how well-coordinated the Infected teams are in professional matches? Just, beautiful. :steamhappy:
I know what versus mode is. I am not an idiot. People play that for fun, and casually. People play that during leisure time, there is no matchmaking whatsoever.
It is not a competition, because there is a competative factor in it. Players are not even in a league.

If you do, then why go through all these lengths to claim that it’s casual when it clearly isn’t? Your whole argument—from saying L4D2 is not an eSport, non-pros should not play competitively, there has to be prize money—just collapsed upon itself. :steamfacepalm:

Read the definition of competition so you can fully understand.

• two teams
• one winner and one loser

= competition

Doesn’t have to be a tournament ongoing or even matchmaking.
