If this doesn't help, then sorry. I don't know a lot about the Source engine and it's spaghetti.
Quick edit: it was either the "-USEALLAVAILABLECORES" command or the "-heapsize (number)" command. I don't remember which one caused the issue.
Can you confirm that your "Headphones/Speakers" are the only active device in the Playback tab of your Windows sound control panel? Go to Control panel ----> Hardware and sound ---- > Sound and make sure there are no other devices enabled except your active audio device.
If you can't find anything suspicious in the Playback tab, it could be a third party software interfering with the audio of the game, go to your Task manager, click on Startup and disable any suspected program or all of them for testing, then reboot your computer and check if you have sound in game or not.
Unfortunately, this did not work either but I thank you for helping.
If you have any third party software that could alter sound control I would recommend to uninstall and check again, as you've made sure the game files are correct and tried all possible solutions, if you need help I've added you to the friends list and we can sort this out.
EDIT 29th October :-
Added OP to friends list, problem was fixed by changing the audio output of Left 4 Dead 2 in Windows Sound ---> "App volume and device preference", as it was set to a different option other than "Default", setting it back to default allowed sound in-game to work.
