Friends-only game no longer friends only?
Hey. I have encountered a problem of randomers in my friends-only games. I've read that it can happen if you play on dedicated servers because they can join via server browser, but we were playing on official. Valve claims that blocked person will be banned from your lobby. Bull freaking horse ♥♥♥♥♥, as Bill says. That person wasn't in anyone's friends list and was blocked by me (for a good reason), so logically he couldn't even see me or my friends playing. So I don't get how the hell did he join our game?

Same problem for versus games. We set friends-only and still random folks join. What's the point in having this option if it doesn't work properly?

Before you suggest creating a LAN game, I'll answer that it's not an option for friends from different countries, because ping will make it impossible to play.

I know that I'm not the only one who's encountered this issue. Maybe there's a solution which I missed?

You create a private game but using public server, of course anyone can join via 'openserverbrowser'. There are times when blocking function work as its suppose to be, and sometimes not. I say you create local host game or vote kick those people who join fast enough before they do any harms.

Thanks for replies, though, as I mentioned, it's nearly impossible to play on local servers, because me and my friends are from different countries which are far away from each other, so.. ping. But anyway, if it's public server that presumes anyone can join, then why there's an option "friends only"? A rhetorical question mostly, but still. It seems like its not properly working, because sometimes when I click "quick game" it connects me to other "friends only" parties and people freak out xD
there a trick, your game can be friends only,l mean,ONLY YOUR GAME,IF SOMEONE IS ON YOUR STEAM PROFIL,SO HE KLICK JOIN GAME,AND THEN HE JOIN THE GAME,IS EVEN JOIN TO HIM EVEN IF YOUR GAME IS ON FRIEND LIST,SO LISTEN,ONLY THE GAME IS ON FRIENDS ONLY,NOT THE STEAM SELFS...

I am not stupid, I understand that. The point was, that a blocked person cannot see if I'm in game or not, so he cannot see my profile and click "join game". We have no common friends and they've never seen that person before. So I don't understand how the hell he joined. And not only L4D2, KF too and other games with MP.

They join your game by going through the openserverbrowser. Doesn't matter if your game is friends only.

Do you have a public Broadcast? Or have made a discussion or guide before in L4D2? I know you can go to a person's profile and join their game from it no matter what options you have enabled. (ofc not for single player)

I would contact Steam Support if people are able to go through your block list.

Just vote kick out the unwanted person. It should go through as long as you have enough people to have the vote go in your favor. I had this happen a few times in my time of L4D 2. But we always had enough people to kick out anyone not on our friends lists.

Thank you! I did kick him but that person doesnt understand it even though I told him to leave me alone. I'm sorry for a noob question, but how can I contact Steam Support? Because I reported that person twice, when he was literally following me in EVERY game even though I blocked him and asked not to. He's just a sick stalker and I cant get rid of him.

You can freely set your profile to private & then back to public at any time. This makes it so no one can click join a game you are in. Of course the rest of your friends will have to do this too.

You then have to create a seperate log - in. Then you can send Steam what your problem is.
Thank you very much.

Doesn't matter if you already blocked that person, if you have the profile public, the person can join via Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc... You need to set your profile to private, also, the people can join via openserverbrowser also to the Official Servers.
