Error Code 17

One of person I know was trying to publish mod but getting error code 17. Someone knows what it is?

Does your friend has VAC banned?

Error Code 17 appears to prevent person with VAC banned uploads mod to workshop.

from my findings Left4Dead2.exe will just scan for running programs in the background...... stuff like notepad,sublime text,chrome,notepad++,putty,obs,sharex etc

hardly any concern here if that is all it does is this however I would agree that scanning of background programs should be done by the steam client itself and not the Left4Dead2 game client because if Left4Dead 2 game client has access to other programs running on your pc that would just make remote access toolkits 1000% easier for an attacker

Didn't mean to revive but how do you know about errors code? I mean how do you know error code 17 means it's about Vacation banned? It doesn't tell in that Vacation FAQ page. Where did you get info from? I'd like to know too if there's any kind of errors happen again

I don't know why they don't have public information for a list of error codes but Everice is 100% correct on this.

Yeah, Valve likes to give cryptic error codes instead of human-readable error messages(look at some of engine errors description). But I think valve maybe published these errors code somewhere if not, how Everice knows about them. I remember she even knows about other error code too. I saw her answered about error code 2 or 10 thread before

I found this link from another thread on Google. Probably where they got the information from too.

There's probably a guide on Steam somewhere with all the error codes, I'll check to see if there is one later.

Still, I don't see why Valve simply couldn't just have had the error code refer to something like 'You cannot publish your item to the <game here> workshop as you have been VAC banned.'

I found it in a very long time ago.. Not sure really if it was Steamworks Developments group or documents but there are common error codes in steam articles here.

If you encounter any unknown error codes, you can ask in here(if it is left 4 dead 2 relate). I will give you the answer if possible
