How to locate vmt files?
Hey there, I'm in a bit of a tight spot. I'll keep this short, I am fully aware of the problem when hunter pounces a high poly survivor and the game crashes, so the only solution is to just delete this model but I got so frustrated that I even went up looking and found this duscussion:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/550/discussions/0/2789318172123164682/

Those guys know how to open vmt files. I presume how but I even cannot find them. I assume that I need a VTFedit for this stuff to edit both vtf and vmt but I can't find anywhere on how to locate vmt mods files so I decided to ask you people as the last plan. Because I wouldn't want to revive that discussion.

How to locate vtf and vmt files of the mods? How to edit them? Pleeease give me a hand on this.

I've already done it. Using VTFedit I opened left4dead2/pak01_dir.vpk/materials/models and I found there folders with survivors and infected e.t.c but aren't there original models? Cause of course I need workshop models. Shouldn't they be in another folder? Because I can have disabled models.

Wait, maybe I'm not getting this right. If I change something in like biker vmt, I will change so the model won't have blood on it, then it will change on every addon that is on Francis?
Like the only vmt that is needed the original because it applies on addons too?

I know that they are all numbers. But in workshop there are no VTF nor VMT. There are only VPK
what model. i can do it for ya real quick.

for the sake of answering your question, you'd need to open up the VPK of the mod and go to wherever the textures are and edit every VMT adding $nodecal 1 (this removes blood decals which cause the crashing from hunters and ff)

the easiest way to find the mod is find the thumbnail and note down the file name because the VPK will use the same one

Your help might not be needed. I have decompiled the model and I found there all of VTFs and VMTs. I presume that I need to edit them and add $nodecal 1. From there I need to save, compile again and put it in workshop folder with this command. Have I got this right?

you don't have to decompile model, just unpack vpk, edit vmt and pack it back in vpk, don't put this modded vpk in workshop folder because original vpk from workshop server will replace it again, leave it in addons folder

Actually I tried and that did work. I played 2 campaigns and nobody crashed. Actually yea, for those who look for answer how to unpack or decompile(I'm not sure how to call that) is here:

From there I used VTFedit, opened a folder and found VMTs which I changed to $nodecal 1. Just compiled it together again and placed it in the workshop folder. Anyhow that's how works for me. Thank you for clues and answers :)
