And who said that Valve's servers are protected? My current server that I am renting from NFO Servers is far more secured than Valve's servers. Valve do care about DDoS because it ruins their business, but it seems they are helpless to defend their servers from it.
This is because Valve is helpless when it comes to DDoS. It seems that their managers had good intentions when they created Source games. They thought people who play games are peaceful people. Either that or they just don't want to spend extra money to provide DDoS protection like "some" third party server companies do.
I rented a server before from GameServers.com, and that server was getting attacked like any public server I connected to. Then it finally stopped when I rented a server from NFO Servers. I will never leave that company. It seems that so many people know how to DDoS, and many of them follow people around to DDoS them every day.
GameServers.com is the most pathetic company I had ever dealed with in my entire life. When I first rented the server from them, and got attacked the first day I rented it, they hided the real reason why their servers are getting the lag. I kept opening tickets almost every 2 weeks because of this lag issue, which was caused by the DDoS, but they kept hiding the real reason to why this lag is happening.
I kept believing their lies about this issue for months until I was 100% positive that someone is following me and launching attacks against me. I sent them a warning message that I will unsubscribe from their service and switch to NFO Servers if they do not block whoever is launching DDoS attacks against my server. Yet they kept telling me that they are not detecting any DDoS.
NFO Server and GameServers.com both claimed that their servers are protected against DDoS. But GameServers.com has a very stylish website compared to NFO Servers. This is why I chosen GameServers.com instead of NFO Servers. My newbie thought was that if a company cannot make a good looking website to show their products then this company is garbage. This is what I though about NFO Servers when I saw their ugly looking website. Then I decided to give NFO Servers a try even though I wasn't convinced that this company is going to solve this problem I was having with this mad animal who followed me everywhere and launched his attacks against me for an entire year.
On the first day I rented my new server from NFO Servers I got attacked. I did not know that this was a DDoS attack because the game frozes completely and I could not even press Esc to exit the game, which is not something normal when DDoS happens, because you can press Esc and exit a game that is being DDoSed. Then when I checked the log file I discovered that I was DDoSed.
Game servers.com is a very bad company. They knew their server was getting attacked, they knew that. Yet they kept lieing and providing excuses to why this lag was happening to me. I would appreciated if they told me the truth by letting me know that I am being DDoSed. They don't even have a firewall for the user to block IP addresses on his own server. But NFO Servers has a firewall for the user to do that.
As for local servers, I do not host local servers for one main reason. A lot of people who connect to my local server gets high pings even though I have a very good Internet connection. They keep complaining about the lag. Few years ago when renting a server was not possible to me, I used to host my own server using a Local Server, but so many people were getting high pings even though I had good Internet connection. I also had other issues when using local server, such as random crashes.
Local Server is definetely not a solution to my problem. I depend on random players when I play any co-op game. Players who connect to my games if they are not satisfied with playing with me they will go away and will not come back.
