Why are NPCs so stupid?
They keep running in front of me when I'm shooting or standing right in front when I'm using a melee. Rochelle moved in front of me when I had a long clear gap between a tank and my .50 cal which would have been enough to kill it. Instead she moved in front of it and by the time I was able to slay her with admin commands my chance was lost. Is there a mod to make them better? And no it wasn't a troll it was an NPC

The bots can be useful at times, they'll never leave your side, never inflict friendly fire damage and are deadly accurate with the SI.

I think they're programmed to take damage rather than the player which is why they stand right in front of you while you're firing.

I would like to say that Downfall is a better choice for bot improvement on both sides of the scale. It even features some new and enjoyable mechanics. Sadly it had to be taken off the workshop then re added due to l4d2 authoring tools bugging out and refusing updatability. So Rest in peace 1460 + subs.

Most of the time bots do not move infront of a player unless that player walked backwards and began shooting. A common example would be the backwards run and gun against tanks. Their programmed to keep a set distance from human survivors and will not go past that limit unless they are threatened or the human player moves backwards and not enough distance to trigger a reposition.

better information

Thanks, I don't know that mod at all which is why it wasn't mentioned, I have used advanced bots before and it seems to work fine.

Yeah, sadly it started to go lowkey ever since that issue I mentioned earlier. Strange you didn't hear about it though, It was under the top mods and on the front page of the workshop in late april this year.

Nothing is better then Augmented Bots mod, that mod bots are extremely improved. Modder uses vscripts to changes bot behaviors, they are deadly, kill si insight before even shout a warning. Aim for killing si rather than follow to bash when si had survivor pinned, they will never gone panic when someone startled a witch nor spotted the tank etc...

From googling it, that looks like an extremely unfair and broken mod. Giving bots shields that regenerate and allowing them to see specials / commons through walls. It even respawns survivor bots after death. That is not better for a normal player wanting to play the game normally. It sounds like a major crutch for terrible players and could quite possibly make them worse at the game. No offense ment to anyone who uses it.

I prefer this mod to improve the bots:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=655424673&searchtext=improved+bots
Besides that the bots have improved their reaction time, it also improves the special infected ones. Just as the smoker and boomer react faster, hunter and jockey jump a little higher, the tank improved its rock throw, etc.

Also for more we want to improve them as humans, it is difficult to guide them faster. When you are in a holdout situation, that is, keep and eliminate all the zombies in the area, everything is fine. But at the time of fleeing fast without stopping they are not able to rush very fast and always fall behind. And if they stop harder they save you.

You should try Downfall. It does bots even better than improved, competitive, and etc.

I was recently playing Gib Fest on Expert with 3 bots & Nick ran in front of me while I was shooting & incapped himself. Rochelle & Coach were on opposite sides of him so they both instantly ran to pick him up & got shot too so I had 3 incapped bots to revive.
