Its selfish, stupid, and doesnt belong in this game.
While i've seen some players able to do it because they're skilled, i don't get why everyone tries it. The best strategy is to stick together, but i'm surprised at the amount of players that don't get it.
Oh? Do enlighten us.
On higher difficulties such as advanced or expert though it can be really annoying to everyone else, since no matter how skilled you are, you are not guaranteed to never make any mistakes - if one such runner got pounced by a Hunter or Jockeyed, they'd be dead/incapped in seconds, and not even a precise sniper shot could save them in time since they'd be far away. And losing a player can be quite detrimental to the team and can determine the outcome of the game in some cases.
Personally, I don't understand running - yes, you may be pretty skilled and may want to show off. In my opinion, however, one's skill in L4D is measured by the amount of teamwork - this IS a co-op game, after all, and it's much more reliant on cooperation rather than individual skill like some other games.
In Versus it's even more infuriating, because the infected are human-controlled. As such, if they are good at their job, you not only need to out-shoot, but also out-think them. And if they get the better of the runner and nobody else can help, this results in the loss of manpower, points and ultimately enjoyment.
When I play, I like to see people actually stick together and at least pay some attention to the objective at hand - running through the map like a tornado doesn't make it any better for the rest. One can show off their skills in different (more cooperative) ways. Or just play with people of a similar skill level.
Here I spoke exclusively about skilled people; not very bright players who just want to troll or be "cool" are a whole another story.
I'm in no way telling others how to play, but can't help but wish they would express their expertise a little differently.
