The SCAR is very accurate but has low damage output due to the pause between bursts, and a very long reload.
The M16 is the most balanced of all rifles, decent ccuracy and good fire rate makes it reliable at almost all ranges.
The AK-47 is very strong and conserves ammo nicely, but anything beyond middle range requires crouched single shots.
I haven't used the other rifle so I can't say anything about it. I'd say with a laser sight, the AK-47 is the clear winner but without lasers, it's really situational. The M16 is the default middle ground rifle, performs well in every situation but doesn't excel in any.
It's pretty bad in Left 4 Dead 2 as its way too easy to burn up all the ammo for it whereas in the original game it wasn't AS bad of an issue with how many more ammo piles there were on top of tier 2 weapons being the original trio only so an M16 to refresh the ammo stock on was always a possibility too.
It's actually pretty bad when I can tell when an AI survivor burned up all their ammo for an M16 when they're exclusively using their pistols on say The Parish's finale.
Best Reason!!
But in the end it's just you choice either way, I usually only use tier 1 weapons, and with friends we have no problem cakewalking realism expert..
We mostly play versus, so any coop is a cakewalk.
Its all about distance, skill of the player and the map. I wouldn't ever take Scar to rush parts, but on other parts its decent if you tend to run out of ammo easily.
If i were to rank the three rifles in general, its 1. Ak 2. M16 3. Scar/desert rifle.
Game is pretty well balanced. All guns have dmg and accuracy variant, but only assault rifles they have middle ground, which is the scar/desert rifle.
Its the lower dps of all tier 2 weapons (with a few exceptions)

Hell, silenced smg has a better DPS than m16, the only difference is damage per shoot and accuracy on longe range.

No, the AK-47 has the highest damage per shot. Without delving into actual damage value, just fire at a common infected in normal campaign: the AK-47 is a one-hit kill while the SCAR needs two shots to secure a kill.
imo ofc
To be fair, the game calls it "desert rifle" and never refers to it by its actual name. Desert, Israel... you could draw a connection, I believe.
Though I'm not sure what he means by rookie/amateur/pro, like how skilled do you have to be to make optimal use of the weapon? I'm pretty sure it all comes down to pointing at something and shooting it, over time you get used to how the weapon handles.
It is called scar in real life..
