Cannot Join Games with Friend

Hello,

I am new to this game, and I cannot join a game with my friend. Either they get in or I do - not both. What are some remedies to this?

They or you can start your own lobby then one of you guys can invite each other.

Does it give some kind of error? If so what is the error?

so basically we both join the lobby no problem. then only 1 of us gets in the actual game - I will be stuck in the loading screen saying something about attempting 10 tries. I will then try and join the game after wards and I get the same error message.

1. Locate your Steam folder, mine is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
2. Delete ALL folders and files except SteamApps, userdata, and Steam.exe.old
3. Reinstall Steam from their website.

This is what fixed mine, hope it works for you!


Someone said this worked for them so maybe try it. If it don't work then I'm not sure.

There's 3 things i know can cause this, since this issue has been around for a while (both are addon related).


1. Mismatching files through addons - If you local host and someone doesn't have the files needed that change any sort of script (Some people love throwing them unnecessarily in for gun skins too, so check those as well.)

Solution? Disabling the addon should work, if you really can't live without it, try setting sv_consistency from 1 (enforced) to 0 (disabled) through console (~ key for most people, unless you use a german keyboard.), that way it's more likely to work, but some still will refuse to.


2. Admin System (Addon) - Oh Admin System... While it's a great addon and so many people praise it for being THE TOOL to host your own stuff, it can cause issues while hosting, namely the one that causes the white bar to not fill on a loading screen. (which people complain a LOT about occasionally.)

Solution? Disable the addon, try again.


3. Mismatched files - Since you said you can play but not with each other, one of you likely had something screw up during the download or some data magically got corrupted.

Solution?
Verify data. (Steam -> Library -> Right click left 4 dead 2 -> Properties -> Local files tab-> Verify integrity of game files.)
Or
Reinstall steam as stated above.
Or
Reinstall the game.

One of these should likely work, good luck to you and your bud with the game.

Wow thank you for your help! Got it to work! Now if you can just make me good at this game, I'd be perfect ;)

Tried all the above does not work, The funny things is I can play quick play with other players online, just FRIENDS! why not??? No mismatched files just bought the game PAID GOOD money for it and then got my brother to buy it, installed the very same version and still failed to connect into game after 10 retires bull crap... SO i suggest steam comes up with a simple patch to fix this solution... or steam is just a hoarder of games to push sales... but not a supporter of gamers who actually play games! and pay MONEY for it!
