Why are there still so many noobs in an almost' 10 year old game?
First as a disclaimer, I'm not here to insult any new players to the game but this topic is more of an insight of questioning what I've observed over the years.

I've played over 1000 hrs on this game since it was released and I swear this is the ONLY multiplayer game where I experience such a thing. Maybe even safe to say the only game in the history of videogames of mankind. Exaggeration? I'm too fed up to care.

It's just beyond my reasoning just how this game is still flooded with 99% newbs everywhere. 90% of the time i join a Versus game, it's just flooded with noobs on both teams. People with playtime as little as 10-30 hours and already playing versus and acting all pro and s***. Go on campaign, even worse. Most players who don't even know how to distinguish between glowing cars and glowing witches. Even more ridiculous since there's no actual ranking in this game (and most people dont even know how to look at steam profiles), noobs can't tell the good or bad players apart. And since they dont even know s*** how to play right, they think what they're doing IS right. So what you have are noobs teaming up to kick skilled veterans that are the ones carrying the bloody team when they start complaining about the noobiness of noobs. Then they end up losing later on. Duh.

Every other competiutive multiplayer game I play doesnt have this insurmountable number of new players. CSGO? TF2? CoD? BF? Payday? Killing Floor? There's usually a much larger number of high ranked players in such games that outweigh the newbs and are fully capable.

But in L4D2? What the hell? How are people only beginning to play a game that's been out for almost a freakin' decade? I know at this point people are gonna jump in here and say I shouldn't be judging by playtime. Oh no, I don't, But there's usually an obvious link between playtime and expertise for very obvious reasons (unless someone makes an alt account, which is quite rare).

Their skills are so bad, it's just facepalm worthy. I spectate alot of these players and almost all of them have some strange problem with aiming in a clear line. Can't even shoot a zombie running at them with a machinegun without missing over a dozen shots at once. I see people with playtime as low as 0.1 hours, like they just bought the game yesterday, immediately jump to versus and run around like a tourist exploring the map.

Did all the veterans quit L4D2 or something? I know being veteran myself, the pros prefer to play in clans, promod games and not crash pub games in fear of being teamed up with noobs. When they do, they usually stack with their friends as teammates all in one team.

Still, it seems pretty strange how noobs practically outweigh as the majority in the playerbase. What gives? Really?

Not everybody own the game since released. There's a lot of factor why you can always meet "noobs" most of the time.

It's not that far-fetched with my statement when I encounter noobs on over 70% of the pub games I go on. I'm not one of those old-timers that like to go private in groups to play so I'm just forced to play pub most of the time. Getting in a good team that's actually full of sensislbe people to make an enjoyable game is to say the least, really based on pure luck.

And to add to KURUIATTE statement another factor would be steam sales, each every big sales l4d is flooded with newbie

there's been over like what? Countless of the same steam sale for L4D2? The lowest it ever goes is $4 in my country.
Other games like CSGO also have just as frequent sales. Why isnt CSGO flooded with noobs then? Even in CSGO casual modes, most players there are very capable

Csgo have ranked system while l4d don't have one so you know the rest, and newbie in l4d tend to shoot people more than zombie due to their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ aim, so maybe because they already shoot player in csgo so.... xD

We can discuss all day and night on why most players have really low skills but i will leave that to expert elaborate them.

These are 5 points i put out for you :
-Time management
-Value differences
-Outside attraction
-Casuality
-Replayablity

You can view them as both seperated or connected.

I'm sorry, but... have you ever played Dota? :D

Noobs will be noobs. Especially if you're getting more skills, you'll always be better than someone. So... Brace yourself :)

Wanted to play L4D2 again. I hope I'll have some time for that precious game.

Say the word "Noob" out loud....doesnt it make you sound ridiculous!? Perhaps its time people stopped using that word and getting so precious about everything....

The new players may have grabbed it for free that christmas, never played, then now looking for something else to try. Or were gifted it and never got into it ect ect. So many reasons why.

Like i was very late to the party for battlefield 4 and star wars battlefront. Im runnin around with a lvl1 guy and crap guns while everyone who kills me are like lvl50 lol

Thats my own fault though because i refuse to pay EA's release prices, when in 6months its usually on sale for 10 quid.

I can symapthise with being kicked for using "advanced" tactics that only make sense when you know how the game works. The ammount of times iv been kicked by obviously newer players (i never really chk hours) when all im doing is spawn blocking bottlenecks or insta kill spots is rediculous.

Cant blame em though, I remember when i had low hours back in left 4 dead 1. I always wanted to move slow and as a unit, shopping all the way, then i started playing vs and wow its a different game completly. Going back to campain after some intense vs, you can see people doing the things you used to do but now understand are wrong. Its like looking back in time haha

^^^ I have 200+ hours on this game & I'm still far from perfect. Here's a fair point of advice for all the new players:

1. Play Singleplayer first. Get your bearings and play through each map alone. This will greatly improve your skills at public Campaign games. You won't make anyone angry, as your only allies are the AI bots. (Note: You may struggle due to the bots being far from competent. If you do, gather some friends and play a private game.)

2. *Avoid Versus at first.* Stick to Campaigns until you know each map by heart & can navigate it with relative ease. Not only that but make sure you have basic combat down to mastery. Before even trying a pub Versus game, team up with friends and learn the ropes of Infected. Know how they work & what strategies fit into each SI.

3. I can't stress this enough. *Avoid anything above Normal.* Advanced & Expert are FAR out of your league when first playing. Only venture to this when you have maps memorized, combat down to a sinch & enough skill to stay alive through the overpowered CI and SI.

4. When in doubt, YouTube it. Want some strats? Check a video. Need help on running a map? Google it. You'll find so many answers it's not even funny. OR, alternative, ask veteran players willing to help. Don't bug them, but go to them for pointers you need help getting down.

For me the fun of L4D2 is that anyone can join, new players, experienced players good and bad.

Personally I enjoy the variety of play, it's all part of the game and adds to the dynamic of the gameplay to keep the game fresh.

The only way a new player can get any good is to play with good players. We've all been there and at some point you were probably guided through the game by someone who had played a lot longer. Personally I enjoy helping out new players, especially if they have a mic. it can be fun. At the end of the day it's only a game and some of the new players turn out to be really good if they don't get put off the game by the more experienced guys complaining. Were all new to a game we've never played :)

Actually, that's exactly what you're doing. Get off your high horse with your "over 1000 hrs" and your "veteran" BS. Instead of complaining, instruct the new players and help them out. Because as people have already pointed out in this thread, new players are discovering this game all the time (like kids that were too young to play the game when it was released but are now old enough to). I'm willing to bet there are HUNDREDS of games that were released 10 years ago or more that you haven't played before. Pick up one of those old games that you haven't played before and I guarantee you will be doing stuff you shouldn't (since you're just learning the game). Should we judge you for being new and making mistakes when playing a really old game? Because according to your childish and condescending mentality, I guess we should.

Your rant/complaint is invalid. You're just being (as the internet likes to put it) very "salty". If you can't deal with playing with new players, then don't play this or any multiplayer game at all.
