Expert is not forgiving. You may need a bit more work on the basics, based on your stats. It also helps to have experienced teammates, obviously. But that's probably not the advice you're looking for, so here goes:
Having at least a pipebomb or two helps a lot. Even better if they're biles. I played a game a couple of days ago where all four of us had bile bombs, and we commented on how easy the run was going to be. Now, you can throw it on the ground like normal, and wade your way through the zombies, or you can toss one (carefully!) up onto a roof they can't get to and they'll just stand there waving their arms, and you can easily weave your way through them to the saferoom. Two will probably do it, three definitely will. But of course, you need to plan accordingly and save them up starting in at least chapter 3.
Likewise, having a molotov at the final fence when you come down on the other side, just before the saferoom can save you some hassle.
Gun selection also matters. Yes, the entire population of Riverside will sometimes come pouring out of the saferoom all at once, but even they can't stand up to two autoshotties.
Stick close to your teammates, and in this case by "close" I mean "able to melee a hunter off your buddy without taking a step." This also puts you at substantially more risk of friendly fire, but that's one aspect of what I meant by "the basics." So is "if in front, crouch so your buddies can shoot over you." Knowing when to run and when to crouch is also part of the basics.
In L4D2 many of the L4D1 events have been replaced with gauntlets, and this is one of them. The horde will never end, so keep moving forward. Don't leave anybody behind (unless absolutely necessary!), but keep advancing so you don't get stuck "defending" the laundry room or the ammo pile in the first floor of that house on the right! It's not really worth it to shop during this event, just head straight up and around to the saferoom!
If you have a gas can you might consider using it to strategically block off an avenue of attack to give yourself a brief respite in which to heal, but beware of getting bogged down. Ideally it'd be deployed right under the board you'll have to cross, then lit to block off as many avenues of attack as possible.
The tactics you'll use will vary moment by moment, depending on what loadout your team has and how injured you are. "Expert" is exactly as advertised, and assumes that you are a skilled tactician, able to handle (most of) what the game throws at you.
Best of luck!
Thank you for such a long response! It's very informative! Yes, I am able to reach the last event every time but die there every time too. I usually play the one-player mode, but the teamwork is still important as you said. I tend to forget checking the others. I'll try to run passing the laundry room and the other one. :D
Assuming you're playing with bots, you almost need a bile bomb, so I'd recommend finding one in chapter 3 or 4 and holding onto it for the run. Throw it up onto a roof (if possible) just as you make the left turn into the alley in front of the laundry room. Timing will be tricky as you'll almost certainly be swarmed by this point, but if you can avoid splashing it onto an attacking zombie that'll help a lot. Then RUN directly for the saferoom; the bile will wear off right about when you're jumping down towards the saferoom, and hopefully there will be enough spawned zombies behind you that you won't have to worry about too many pouring out of the saferoom.
Good luck!
I play this game almost on a nightly basis after all work's done. Every two or three tries and that's it. So for most of time it's just me and bots. XD
No dude. In expert mode you should be playing with other people, not bots.
Also pipe bombs aren't nearly as useful when compared to the first game. They don't pull as many zombies, and they're really only good for when someone's boomed. The bile jars pulls zombies away much better than a pipe, aside from when you're boomed.
1. Dont use your bile as it starts. Save it till after you drop off the roof. If you can get to the bus thats perfect. Throw it behind you at this point.
2. Once bile behind you.....dont shoot any zombies just bash and move.
What you have done now is have all the commons the game can spawn behind you and no more can spawn in front. You should have a clear run.
If you shoot any after bile though they will spawn in front of you so try not to.
This is basicly the principal for solo rush. Get all the commons behind you and dont stop moving. Even for tanks just dodge em :)
Ps if you can get the hang of doing this strait out of the safe room without nades you can run almost any map without killing any commons haha
This sounds cool! Let me try it tonight!
Fingers crossed for getting a bile jar. xD
