People cant join my game when i play local [Solved]
so to begn, yes i do use mods, the only script alterng ones i use are icons, CSS weapons and sometimes Competitive bots so the AI are compitent. and in these cases ive always disabled consistency with that "sv_consistency 0" command.

with few frend to help me tet out whats happenng client side i dont know much of whats happening, but t ranges from no loading at all, to just being stuck on the loading screen. me personally when loading into the game ive noticed it takes a fair bit longer to load in, but i personally ignored this due to the fact all maps i play even on offical servers are slow to load for me.

with that said, and the fact i know about consistency and people still cant join my game, does anyone have any tips on why ths is happenng? just last week everythng was happening fine, nothing was wrong, and now, cant get a single person to join my game, even my friends cant get in due to some bug.

[Edit]

So thanks to the help from the community, and epecially one person in particular (you know who you are brah) i had my issue resolved, for future reference, and anyone else whom might experence this issue, i'll be keeping tabs on this discussion, and posting the soluton i came to, plus others, here from now on, i hope you people who are as useless as i am with computers can make use of this info ^^

1. try resetting your router if you have one, soft or hard reset might do the trick as your providers, if you have a NON 3rd party hub, can change settings, for optimsation i would assume

2. try flushng your DNS Cache, to do ths you need to find your command promt, due to using windows 8 dont know the way to fndng it for other OS' but a simple google search should lead you on the right path, once n the command promt, type in the following command "ipconfig /flushdns" WITHOUT the quotations.

3. try checking up on your routers settings, this is in that case that you have custom settings and dont want to hard reset to go back to factory, somewhere on your router, depending on which one you have, there will be an assortment of codes and passwords. what youre looking for is the make of your hub either "SuperHub 2" or "SuperHub 2ac" once you know ths, look on the router for your gateway ping, if that isnt there, google should be able to help you (direct info on ths would be helpful so i can give people direct information) once you have your g ateway png, put it into your browser search bar and you should be taken to your providers router settings page.

from here you need to go back to your hub and find the password, which in most cases is "changeme" but it doesnt hurt to double check, and under that password, should be your WPS PIN you wll need these to log in to be able to configure your settings manually.

4. another router solution is try cutting out the middle man entirely, using a LAN cable, if available, connect your computer directly to your modem and disconnect it from the router, whether wireless or ethernet connected.

-----

this is all i have on hand currently and the mot i can remember without fault from my attempts fixing my own problem wth the help provided to me, any of you out there whom have other solutons do leave a comment explaining t and i will add it to the list for easy access to anyone having these problems.

as much as most of you hate local games, its a nice way for most players to access their game changing mods, or play with cheats wthout having to use a community server. so do keep that n mind before deciding not to share your knowledge

i hoped this informaton helped any of you out there, pleae note i myself am completely useless wth computers and the only help i can provide is what is already listed here, if that doesnt work, comment the exact problem you have wth details and any tests you may have run, with more information on the table, the community can better help you. thank you, and happy gaming all of you! ^.^

I can not really help you. Only wanted to say that I as an example leave immediatly if someone is hosting local. Pings are usually terrible and I am not a fan of mods. Local means that only the person hosting the game will have a decent ping unless you are living close to each other and you have a ridiculously fast connection. No fun to play in a game where one side has a ping of 5-40 and you end up with 160-200.

And not to mention that when the host RQ, the game will just end.

If you have downloaded some addons, move them temporarily to another folder. What happens then?

If you have manually installed it :

Steam/steamapps/common/Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/addons/

If you have subscribed from the workshop :

Steam/steamapps/common/Left 4 Dead2/left4dead2/addons/workshop/

Sounds like a firewall port block where people can see your server but no one can connect since the packets are rejected. Kindly check if your firewall(third-party or not) permits or allow L4D2 to use the port 27015. If you've already tried or if you have configured your firewall correctly then this shouldn't be an issue. Another means of allowing packets to go through is by disabling your firewall temporarily and check if your friends can connect if this doesn't resolve the issue then another solution would be port forwarding. It's possible that the packets are misled or not routed to the right local IP given to your client/server machine by your modem/router. Last would be if you are behind a private IP or privately assigned via DHCP by your ISP. You may have to contact them if you aren't assigned a public IP. Kindly check your WAN IP address. If that doesn't match your public IP(as the one shown in whatismyip.com) then you ARE behind a private IP address to which NO ONE can connect to your server regardless if you try to port forward

TL;DR

1) Check your firewall configuration. Make sure the firewall that you have allows applications to access port 27015.

2) Port forward to your local IP assigned by your router(if you use a router like Linksys, Netgear, TP-Link, etc... Or that your modem has IP routing support)

3) Check if your WAN IP address matches your public IP address.

4) Use an online port checking tool to see if packets are routed correctly such as http://www.canyouseeme.org/

this is all very concerning, as just last week everything worked without issue, close to two weeks now but whatever point is over night somethng changed... i know im not in a private IP that much i know, but whatever has been changed, i cant pin, i tried disabling my firewall and tried a game, same resultswhch leaves us with the last reason you gave, that connections arent being routed to me, but somewhere else?

usng that canyouseeme ste, tried testing with port 80, it said it failed, due to connection time out.

You have to open your server and by default it should be using port 27015. Keep your listen server in L4D2 running in the background and use that site to test port 27015. If it shows failed then no one can connect to your server. If it shows success then that means it works.
VoltaicFeline Jan 23, 2017 @ 11:46pm
ive never tred running a listen server, i usually just use the local host which s where the problem lies, doin a listen server is a bunch of console commands im uselessat reading. but as you said i ran my local game, publicly open, and checked the canyouseeme n the backround, it timed out

Local hosting = Listen server in this game. A listen server is basically a game server made in a game client. I meant that you have to run a map through your local server/listen server and use that website to check if you can receive packets flowing into that port.

yeah i did that, connection timed out, im awfully sorry that this is takng so many tries, im honestly hopeless with computer stff so i really appreciate your help. so, Canyouseeme says the connection time out, when ran a local game and checked port 27015

Are you using 1 modem and 1 router or a combo SOHO unit?
