There is no real limit afaik, only file size wise. If you have a 128x128 plain color spray you might get a lot of frame sout of it and stay below 512kb.

As I said, file size is the only limit afaik. If you wanna use 256x256 you will most likely never be able to use more than 3 frames since you'll hit the file size limit.

use .vtf instead of gif.
i can't remember exactly but roughly i think you get 16 frames with 128x128
10 frames with 256 and 8 frames with 512
something like that anyways....

I was talking about vtf the whole time and I kinda doubt you can actually get 8 frames out of 512x512. A few days ago I tried making a short (only 3 frames) animated spray for TF2 and the end file size was way too big. Had to use 128x128 in order to get below 512kb. With 128x128 and 3 frames the file size was around 200kb.

As I said, I can also give you proof if you want to have some. Tried to make a spray with 3 frames (256x256) a few days ago and the file size of the vtf was still 100+kb over the limit. Unless transparent images take up more space within vtfs for some reason, idk.
