How do I send a message in game?

For some reason I can't seem to figure out how to send messages in gameplay

the default bind is "y", IIRC
or type in console:
bind y messagemode

[Blue]

"u" will do team chat, if you don't want to send the message to the opposing team.

If every button doesn't work, go into your settings and reset to default.

Nothing here worked, I had to choose which button would be for messaging. NOT "click y", it was not assigned. NOT "reset to default"(it was still blank after trying this).

Amazing how so many are more interested in pointing out how you are "reviving" a problem that has no solution, than trying to give constructive advice.

I had to literally choose a button to open the message function(had to "remap"). It's a good thing the people of GameFAQS are less toxic a community than Steam Discussions or I would have just given up ever playing again.
