Nobody can see my sprays!
Over the past YEAR AND A HALF, I have been having trouble with my sprays. I can see them just fine, but literally nobody else can. I'd spray it right in front of people and they wouldnt see anything. not only that, I can't see anybody else's sprays either. I'd recently gone through the trouble of editing and converting several gifs into vtf for animated sprays. To say the least, I'm a bit peeved that the effort I put into it is basically going to waste. I KNOW I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, literally everyone I've come across online is having similar problems, with a RARE few claiming that worked a couple times before, though they have no idea why.

I'm surprised this issues hasn't come up yet since 2015! (and yes, ive tried the solutions suggested, and they're either solutions to the wrong problems, or they just dont work.)

to reiterate, everyone seems to see their own sprays just fine, but nobody else can. Which KIND OF defeats the purpose if you asked me.

PLEASE does ANYONE have a solution to this problem? Or is this something we're all just going to have to hope that valve gets off their @ss to fix?

Sprays don't seen to work at all (or just very rarely) on official valve servers. If you play on community or pinion servers, people should be able to see them just fine.
If you want others to see your sprays, play on pinion or community servers.

I live in EU West and it is absoluty wrong here. Sprays work fine on any server.

Please mind that if you have changed you spray in less than 72h it's a bug and you must be patient before other people can see your spray.

You could always just try following this guide to ensure that your spray is properly made. It's a TF2 guide, but it can be universally applied to source games in general. However, keep in mind that if your spray goes over 512kb, it will either not work at all or won't appear to other players. Most other players fail to realize this & suffer the same issue, or often just import images directly.

There's an cvar on both client and server that prevent the game from downloading things, including sprays..
On my own server only vanilla sprays is allowed, maybe those players/servers have this setting
Don't remember exactly the cvar name.

You sure showed us, bud. I had no clue that you should keep a spray at 128x128/256x256/512x512, check "no level of detail" and "no mipmap" and keep it below 512kb.
It couldn't possibly be that the official valve servers are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up when it comes to sprays in a similar way as TF2 won't show sprays on official servers.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not for that first half there, but... Sprays are working fine on my end & I've never had an issue with my current spray ever since I set it, nor with my prior ones. People always see it & shoot the hell out of it & I can often see other people's sprays with a few exceptions. Even in the latter case of those exceptions, they can usually see their own, but others cannot see their's. As for TF2, I don't really play that anymore nor did I ever setup sprays, but it doesn't seem like Valve likes custom content on there anyway, having disabled any client-sided skins on official servers as well.

Using any mods?

year and half and still dont work?

Did you wait at least 72 hours without changing it out over and over?

Are they xrated gifs?

I had this issue when I first changed my spray and I waited a few days then everyone was able to see my sprays and I can see theirs.

Its either mods, didnt wait long enough, or something else with your system. People were able to see my spray just from last night.

I've uploaded images moments before starting up the game, in addition to switching the spray each chapter, and have yet to experience any strange occurrences. Very context sensitive sprays, mind you. But a bug that causes a 72 hour wait period for sprays being visible? That's a weird one. Besides, if this truly has been an issue spanning over 18 months, one would think that time, especially as little as 72 hours, wouldn't be a factor.

This question is also weird.
Just to precice, I said that the other players won't see your new sprays until +-72h but after that time they'll see it every time you switch between them.
To my understanding this is more a question of steam server duplication and validity to accept a new spray.

(Buy im not sure)

I am only guessing but it may depend on what server you play on if it be a random or if you play on the same server or even if you are the host.
Some servers may have to get admin approval for sprays to be allowed...not sure as I have not admin to any server.

I understood. I just find it odd, is all.

I think there is a command you can use as admin to block sprays. Do not quote me on that. I still find the previous statement weird.

if he is on a server with an active admin he may block sprays if they are porn was why I was asking if it was porno. I have not seen any xrated sprays in teh years Ive played. Offensive yes but porno no.

Sarcasm. Anyways, question. Do you usually play on community/local servers on L4D2 or also the official valve ones? Because as I said earlier, sprays seem to not show up on valve servers at all or at best very rarely.

Why would a "steam server duplication" or a validation of a new spray be any issue or process in the first place.
Sprays are just VTFs and VMTs in your material folder. I doubt they undergo any extra process that might delay them or not make them work, since on community and local servers they always seem to work right away.

Such unwarranted sarcasm, then.

As for servers, I only play on official servers—I avoid community servers like the plague unless Valve's are explicitly unfunctional. Still, sprays seem as functional as ever. I even saw a few new ones recently.
