I am a sucker for Megaman-inspired games, and RoboGAL is definitely one of the better ones. There are some bad level design moments here and there which result in difficulty spikes (looking at you missile platforms over bottomless pit puzzle near the end of the game), but if you have completed any of the NES Megaman games this game shouldn't be too difficult for you despite these moments. The characters and art style are very cute as well, making for an enjoyable game to immerse yourself in for a few hours.

One of THE most important and fundamental things about a game like this should be gameplay, and gladly it responds very well. It plays like a more modern MM game would offering you dash and charge, I had a far few caveats about hitboxes sometimes but in the huge majority it felt great and very well rounded. There's also a few extra options if you fancy, like auto charge, and there's no such thing as a shop in this game, if you want lives and tanks go after them on stages.

Boss designs are really cool, both visually and in battles. Some of them have a bit more of luck factor than others, but all and all it's pure pattern recognition and all the battles are fun and fit very well into their themes, pretty cool patterns. The boss weapons are all extremely useful in this game too, you'll find yourself very frequently swapping around them to cross some stages, that's something amazing to get right cuz it's not uncommon at all in MM-like games and especially in MM itself that there's like two meta weapons and the rest kinda sucks, not on RoboGAL every single boss weapon has very strong and useful characteristics.

Level design is nice, it floats a bit in difficulty since every stage has its own sorta gimmick going on but all and all they're pretty fun, but I also love the fact new mechanics are introduced in extremely simple and smooth ways without a singular box of text, for example putting a much taller pillar into the water immediately clicks that you can jump even higher underwater and should do so to go through, creative ways to explain simple things without slowing your pace down, a concept lost in time. One fair warning though is how the difficulty spikes massively in the second half of the game, it's absolutely wicked. I know I know, Megaman-like game is difficult fork found in kitchen, what I mean is more like the game doesn't have a super smooth and natural transition to the super insane late game stages compared to the first bosses, I can confidently say 2/3 of my playtime were trying to pass the last stages post-6 bosses.

Visuals are very colorful and eye-catching, it feels good how every stage seems to have a very well rounded color scheme, soundtrack is also a banger it follows through a much more PS1-esque soundfont which I really enjoy, I think it's a pretty fun contrast to the game having a much more 16-bit approach (which now that I think of it mid writing this sentence it wasn't that uncommon on the PS1 either lmao), but yeah it has some very very catchy tunes I'm excited for it to have an official release. The story is, well, there, I'm unsure if I'm missing any extra explanation unlocked at the hardest mode possible but yeah it's something a lot more attuned to silly and simple for the sake of laughs and fun, not for the sake of five hour long theory videos.

I'm unsure if I have any super explicit negatives about this game, something that makes me go "holy I hated this it's awful" besides having plenty of rage moments with the extremely brutal difficulty spike of the late game, if I HAD to name a negative though I think i'd leave it to overall playtime, even going fully blind and struggling a lot through the difficulty you can still beat it in just a few 3-ish hours, I think it's another classic thing about games of this sort they're usually mega fast if you're a pro player so the difficulty helps extend playtime a bit, which on itself is already quite short. It does benefit well out of replayability tho, with very challenging achievements and an even harder mode to play, yeah I think I lack the courage needed to try doing a no game over save right now...

If you want an MM-like game straight to the point then you hit a good landing, it's hard to say much besides great platforming great gameplay and very charismatic style, you're probably here cuz you're a fan of the genre so you definitely won't be disappointed.

It's classic Mega Man, it knows it's classic Mega Man, and it's pretty good at being classic Mega Man.
