English subtitles?
Is there a way to get English Subtitles for dialogue? For instance, right when you start the game, there are a couple of troopers speaking russian who happen upon some dude... I assume this dude is the player character? who knows... After that, you do get english subs when the radio pops up, but it makes me wonder if all the cinematic cut scenes are strictly in russian with no English subs...

I saw that there is an English voice over patch, but I would much rather play this game with russian VO and engish subs for everything.

Does this exist? This game looks like some crazy lost gem, I would love to give it a proper go with its native style intact (but with some subtitle help for an english speaker like me)

Thanks for any info :)

Use Wesps patch here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-precursors-unofficial-patch
Install it into the main Precursors directory. The actual audio is Russian as it's the complete addon. The original English version was pretty halfassed and so much of the dialogue wasn't voiced and translation was sub par to boot. This version has the full Russian audio that was originally an extra download and with the patch you'll get the game vo translated. I think the very start, the dialogue still doesn't have a subtitle, but it should be in (bad)English so you'll be fine.

The game is a crazy lost gem, well worth the effort and qurikiness. It's the game Mass Effect wished to be without the gay romances and corridor shooting :)

Oh and the Russian VO suits it. Makes it feel more exotic.

The ModDB page links towards a 404, I suggest using this one instead (though I didn't test it on my install yet...):

Thanks guys, I seem to have it going.

As for the game itself, well.... it is ultra janky lol, I've had a couple crashes and the performance really sucks. Does anyone have any tips on getting things running a bit smoother? I can run doom 2016 and watch dogs 2 just fine, but this game is choppy as hell

keep in mind that isn't a deal breaker, I can put up with some crap performance if the games charm is strong enough, and that seems to be the case so far. I just arrived at the first place after the intro section (trying to avoid spoilers a bit, heh) and yeah I am looking forward to giving it a go... but it would be nice to smooth the performance a bit

anyways, thanks again for the useful info!

The game always had a bit of an unfinished state when it was released, so yea there are performance issues, here you can find some more support on technical things tho:

Performance issues? Game runs butter smooth for me. GTX 970 - 4690 i5 CPU - 16 GB RAM. I am surprised at how smooth and luxurious it feels. Lots of NPCs on screen, decent graphics and textures, performance a solid 60 FPS. Some objects draw in a bit closer than I'd like and there are a few weird movement bugs at times related to the terrain but otherwise the game works perfectly and runs great. The engine is almost impressive, IMO, with all the interactivity with the environment, amount of NPCs with dialogue and general design and feel of the first port city.

Definitely a crazy lost gem.
