About the Dark Souls achievement

If you die one level (Dark Souls achievement), do you have to restart the whole game ? Or just redo the level ? Is there even a level select screen and/or save system ?

Hi, you need to complete all stages from the very beginning without dying once. There is no level select or save system.

I tried my best but the limited number of lives makes it impossible to practice the further levels enough.
I really want to like this game but it has me frustrated at this point. I don't think I'm bad at platformers, but I don't see myself completing the game honestly, definitely too tricky after World 3.

I seriously question the achievements stats for this game, but I don't know the exact players base number so...
