Terrible Reviews
First of all, I'm a firm believer that reviews don't ( generally ) mean crap.

Some of my favorite games such as Splatterhouse ( new ) Drakengard 3 recieved mediocre scores yet I loved them.

However, Fear Effect Sedna has been getting panned. I mean, this is downright ugly folks.

5 out of 10 50.00%
Cubed3 03/05/18 5 out of 10 50.00%
Wccftech 03/05/18 6.5 out of 10 65.00%
Playstation Universe 03/05/18 5.5 out of 10 55.00%
Metro GameCentral 03/05/18 3 out of 10 30.00%
God is a Geek 03/05/18 3 out of 10 30.00%
Push Square 03/05/18 3 out of 10

Think I'm going to pass & I really wanted this game. :(

It's better to consider whether the sources of the reviews are relatable to you.
As in, you'll want to read reviews written by people with a reasonable intelligence,
balanced thinking (price-content ratio plus some affinity with game development potentials)
and an interest in the genre. In short, quality reviews are (imo) written by :Pressured:roper aficionados. They're a dying breed however, just like non-sensationalist news networks.

I found the Destructoid review by :Durno: Chris Moyse to be fair.
Reading that review, one could go either way: buying the game or not
as it really just pinpoints the aspects that the game does :ampersand: doesn't do well.
So, one can determine on their own whether those aspects are important.

Furthermore, the game content might also be interesting for the female audience,
considering there's a lofty Resident Evil / Life is Strange vibe hanging. :ucoffee:

My bottom line: There is just far better out there.

the old fear effect games are not unplayable lol. I just played them recently on epsxe. tank controls just have a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you actually prefer it. plus, the games are balanced around the fact that you are using tank controls.

the combat also takes some getting used to in the old games. just remember to crouch since enemies shooting at you need to crouch as well to hit you. Then there's rolling, which has invincible frames. Once you get those down, the combat will be easier. fear effect just oozes style though, don't let the controls stop you from playing the classics. I mean ppl are doing speedruns with these "unplayable" tank controls. :P

as for sedna, i might get it, just because i like the originals even if the reviews aren't too hot.

I've found it fine. A few of the puzzles/boss fights re frustrating but then so were the originals. I would for 7/10. The nostalgia is fun and its fine as a top down puzzle game. Not up there with shadowrun dragonfall but fun.
Never discount the pretence factor as well.

This is a sequel to a cult classic. Lots of idiots will hate on this just to pretend that they are "old school" fans of the originals.

C&C of Tiberian Saga 3rd and 4th games have "mostly negative" Steam ratings while providing solid experience as the previous parts. Most reviewers (even professional btw (I don't understand what the **** professiional reviewer is though and probably never will) tend to describe and rate game based purely on their expectaions, not the game itself. "This walking simulator does not have shooting in it, 0/10". "This is the greatest RPG ever, you can choose from 2 phrases (and there is even sarcasm option) in every dialouge". "This games sucks, I thought it's a shooter but it's RTS". Etc.
Imho it comes from the human habit to beautify things/persons they like, because most of the people lack guts to say: "Well, the game's really ugly and filled with strange designer decisions and bugs. I do love it though" or "Well, the game's great all around, but I really couldn't like it".
TL;DR:
Wanna know the lifehack I use? When I see the game I don't know anything about on Steam, I first open negative reviews in my native language (Russian) and pick a few based on a simple criteria - grammatical correctness. Then I pick a few positive reviews. That way I at least cut the crap that was written by people who didn't even bother to learn how to write.
TL;DR (part 2):
I've just strated the game. Although I've already met some "far from perfect" mechanics, the game did not do anything wicked enough to make me stop. Imho, if you have some time and money to try this game, then try.

This is the second game in recent memory that I had high hopes for & then saw the 2 out 10, 3 out of 10 review scores. ( The first being suvival horror "Past Cure" ) I would like to hear from people who puchased this and are now playing it. What do you think?

I played it, its nothing like the previous games. I never listen to professional reviews but you should this time.

I finished it. It's playable but I don't recommend it if you have at least 1 other option of what to play next.

Damn. I also had high hopes for "Past Cure" but that was a flop...

I was Kickstarter backer. Installed the game then couldn't figure out the controls, icons refer to PS4 controllers. If there is support for Xbox controllers its not apparent. Subsequently I haven't tried again. My 'play' time on Steam is limited to about 10 minutes, which is the first cut scene plus some minutes trying to figure out the controls. Do developers ever look at Steam hardware statistics ?
Made a posting in the tech support thread and no response from devs about this very large oversight. When I posted this in their Facebook my message was marked as spam !!

Let it not be said that Sushee did not nail the look, the atmosphere, the setting, the music, the puzzles, and the mythos. The gameplay didn't bother me too much, it did its job. I was really just tanking through to the end of it with my crew bullet-sponging the enemy bullets and eating Medkits like candy.

In terms of criticisms, the story just kind of drops off at the end and tries to close itself up damn near out of nowhere, and the voice-acting is... well, to put it bluntly, its awful. Hana and Rain SOUND all right, but that's about all I can say about them, there's no range or strength to any of them, it really does sound like everyone's reading off cards in a hotel room, and they can't raise their voices or they'll bug the neighbors. Deke and Glas's voices don't fit how they should be, and they are just bad, I'm sorry. Good voices can make bad writing sound decent, but bad voices can ruin a good story.

If this is any indication of how Reinvented's voice-acting will be, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Watched some Youtube vids. Wow, the voice acting is really bad and that's terrible since the voice acting was one of the strengths of the original games.

And I'm not sure if I've just been watching bad players but I'm hearing things about the AI pathfinding but that can hopefully be fixed by a patch.

With the mostly bad reception, are they still doing the FE: REMAKE?
