As in, you'll want to read reviews written by people with a reasonable intelligence,
balanced thinking (price-content ratio plus some affinity with game development potentials)
and an interest in the genre. In short, quality reviews are (imo) written by
I found the Destructoid review by
Reading that review, one could go either way: buying the game or not
as it really just pinpoints the aspects that the game does
So, one can determine on their own whether those aspects are important.
Furthermore, the game content might also be interesting for the female audience,
considering there's a lofty Resident Evil / Life is Strange vibe hanging.

the combat also takes some getting used to in the old games. just remember to crouch since enemies shooting at you need to crouch as well to hit you. Then there's rolling, which has invincible frames. Once you get those down, the combat will be easier. fear effect just oozes style though, don't let the controls stop you from playing the classics. I mean ppl are doing speedruns with these "unplayable" tank controls. :P
as for sedna, i might get it, just because i like the originals even if the reviews aren't too hot.
This is a sequel to a cult classic. Lots of idiots will hate on this just to pretend that they are "old school" fans of the originals.
Imho it comes from the human habit to beautify things/persons they like, because most of the people lack guts to say: "Well, the game's really ugly and filled with strange designer decisions and bugs. I do love it though" or "Well, the game's great all around, but I really couldn't like it".
TL;DR:
Wanna know the lifehack I use? When I see the game I don't know anything about on Steam, I first open negative reviews in my native language (Russian) and pick a few based on a simple criteria - grammatical correctness. Then I pick a few positive reviews. That way I at least cut the crap that was written by people who didn't even bother to learn how to write.
TL;DR (part 2):
I've just strated the game. Although I've already met some "far from perfect" mechanics, the game did not do anything wicked enough to make me stop. Imho, if you have some time and money to try this game, then try.
I played it, its nothing like the previous games. I never listen to professional reviews but you should this time.
I was Kickstarter backer. Installed the game then couldn't figure out the controls, icons refer to PS4 controllers. If there is support for Xbox controllers its not apparent. Subsequently I haven't tried again. My 'play' time on Steam is limited to about 10 minutes, which is the first cut scene plus some minutes trying to figure out the controls. Do developers ever look at Steam hardware statistics ?
Made a posting in the tech support thread and no response from devs about this very large oversight. When I posted this in their Facebook my message was marked as spam !!
In terms of criticisms, the story just kind of drops off at the end and tries to close itself up damn near out of nowhere, and the voice-acting is... well, to put it bluntly, its awful. Hana and Rain SOUND all right, but that's about all I can say about them, there's no range or strength to any of them, it really does sound like everyone's reading off cards in a hotel room, and they can't raise their voices or they'll bug the neighbors. Deke and Glas's voices don't fit how they should be, and they are just bad, I'm sorry. Good voices can make bad writing sound decent, but bad voices can ruin a good story.
If this is any indication of how Reinvented's voice-acting will be, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
And I'm not sure if I've just been watching bad players but I'm hearing things about the AI pathfinding but that can hopefully be fixed by a patch.
