Are Detours Worth It?
Traditional games have taught me that if there's an obviously right path, I try every other path before I go down that one. However, in Pathway, running out of gas is a serious threat. So, are all unlabeled dots equally valid? If I have some extra fuel, should I try going to remote corners for something extra I wouldn't get on the beaten path? Or I should I avoid backtracking and try to go mostly straightforward, taking the occasional detour so long as I don't go too far out of my way?

In the beginning I was always running out of gas but then I discovered you can buy more fuel capacity at load out. Since then I have been able to explore more and so far I have only discovered one really cool area (achievement) and a couple nice weapons. I would say a third of the far out dots are worth it but mostly you just spend gas and get in more fights.

Yeah, it's a gamble. Sometimes they're a waste, sometimes you get something great, sometimes you find enough supplies to pay for the trip and not much else. But they do help with unlockables and achievements in the long run. You just might want to rank up/upgrade a bit before you try them regularly.

In the play mode not allowing replay an area it gets more meaning. Sure there's a bet, but there's also a second level bet.

In this mode you can't replay an area, hence exploit as much than possible the area is more XP for next era, eventually more something else, at least more chance to get better items.

So in that second level perspective, the bet isn't just get something, or only enough to justify the expense, or not even enough to justify the expense. But it's also give up some detours to be weaker at next area, or take the detour and risk put in danger your ability to finish the era.

It's more spicy than the mode not allowing grind at will.
