(Also, as a kid, saying something was "my jam" was my jam.)
Ask Cranky Food Friends, a reskin and rename of another Puyo game, if you want to know.
Today, we live in a age of gaming where we accept all games regardless of it's country of origin.
1) The game art style is all based in Puyos. There are even characters and a full Story Mode in which Puyos are protagonists. They didn't want to recreate all the game in Sonic art style
2) It is a form to make Puyo Puyo popular in the west. I believe it worked, as I started to play other Puyo Puyo games because of Puyo Puyo Tetris. I begin to like it.
3) It is a crossover between two great puzzle games: one from Japan (Puyo Puyo) and other from Russia (Tetris). If one of them was renamed, it might lose this crossover aspect.
4) Dr. Robotnik's is now called Dr. Eggman (lol, this is just a joke reason)
There are Sonic skins for Puyos and Tetriminos, which is something at least.
