There are multi and single player modes where you can choose to play exclusively in Puyo Puyo or Tetris styles and rules. If you want only a game where you can player either tetris or puyo puyo this is the one to pick.

Like I believe you can play against other people, mixing and matching, like they're playing Puyo and you're playing Tetrist, so that's neat too.

Assuming he's a young (90's kid) person, probably not. But even then, the game was pretty obscure unless you were a sonic fan and even then...I found it because i was actively hunting for Sonic stuff, then eventually came to learn about Puyo Puyo.

There is the basic single player Tetris, but.....there's a whole lot more to the game beyond that.

I owned it on the Switch, 3DS, and PS4. You can play the most basic versions of both game modes, you can do marathon runs on Tetris, just like the old days, with some of the nice quality of life additions like swapping pieces and the slam.

Story makes you play in a lot of different scenarios with different rules for tetris and puyo, but ignoring that you can play multiplayer modes sticking to the ones you can choose tetris exclusivelly (and be owned by a big enough chain from a puyo user)

That's a buy for me. I don't mind the mashup or Dr. Robotnik's Mea- I mean Puyo Puyo, but it's great to have just good old Tetris as an option.
