Flying Disc League is now on Steam. It's ultimate frisbee as a competitive online multiplayer game: 2v2 up to full 7v7, on dedicated servers, against real players, at Pavilion Gardens on the seafront.

You take control of one player on the field for the whole point. Cut to get open, read the flight to make the catch, then pick your throw and watch the disc fly just as it would in real life. Nothing is scripted, and nothing is completed for you (unless you want it to be).

Here's some of what has gone into the game over the past few weeks.

With one simple click-and-drag method, your selected throw can be released with any angle or power you want. Line it up and a ribbon traces its flight before you let go, so you can see the curve of an inside-out backhand or the drop of a hammer, and once it's away a trail follows the disc through the air.

And it's fast. You can wind up for a huck, or play the short game with quick stall-zero passes. Even greatests are possible, all fully under your control. In casual play, auto-aim colours your target green, yellow or red to help new players find the open pass.

Movement, laying out and netcode have been our priorities from day one. Cutting, changing direction and laying out full-length for the disc are built to feel tight and responsive, and the game is made for online play, so a layout catch against real players feels as good as one against the bots.

• Call a timeout between points, or while the disc is in your hands. You'll watch a replay of the last play while your team votes on the offence or defence to run next.

• Intercept in the end zone you're defending and the choice is yours: throw from where you stopped, or walk it up to the line.

Bots fill any open spot, from beginner to expert, and they'll lay out for the disc just like you. Expert defenders now change direction faster, and the defence spreads out to cover its matchups instead of crowding onto one player.

The tutorial is now a run of short drills: intercepting a pass, hucking it deep, hitting the break side past your mark, running down a long throw. The drills adapt as you go, so win a rep early and the next one gets a little harder. It finishes with pulling practice, where every pull is scored on its hang time and where it lands, and then drops you straight into a 4v4.

The Play screen lets you choose casual or competitive, pick a size from 2v2 to 7v7, or browse the server list. Join a game that's already running and you can watch it from the spectator cameras.

Your career stats live in the Account tab, and our website now has a league table of everyone who has thrown and caught a pass: games, wins, goals, assists, blocks, completions, turnovers and hockey assists. The tutorial, drills and games against bots all count, so you're on the board from your very first catch.

Playtest sign-ups will open right here on the store page. Wishlist and follow Flying Disc League to keep up with the game until then.

Thanks to everyone who has played so far. See you on the field.
