The game has a random element to it that each time you play it, important things change around but I was able to get things "right" in my first ever (and only) play-through so that's an A on the game's logical consistency and deduction reasoning.
I am, however a big fan of Lovecraft since I was a teen so I can't say for sure how much that helped me - if I had to, I would say it helped me understand a lot of the characters' stories faster but did not necessarily helped me "solve the overall puzzle".
It's a good game and pretty cheap. I whole-heartedly suggest your partner should get it if she's even minimally interested in these types of games. If she ultimately finds the "mystery solving" part of it weak, the writing and characters are pretty cool, the concept and execution are novel and the acting ranges from mediocre to pretty solid. Definitely worth getting at 50% if it's anywhere around her areas of interest - definitely worth a try, anyways!
