as for the AI player jump, I have no idea when I can use it. Only works 1/10 times I try, even when it looks like the ai is at a good spot to do it.
To block shots by jumping, you want to just wait until it looks like the other player is about to shoot and you have to kind of guess and press Y in front of them to block it. Having a player with a higher block stat seems to help with this a lot, and for blocking dunks, you just kind of have to press y between them and the basket and hope your player makes contact with theirs. You CAN jump towards them from behind and occasionally block the shot as well.
Just to give you a visual indication, if the ball flashes white when you try to block, that means your player made contact with the ball and either blocked it or swiped at it, which is a good thing. They can still score, but it lets you know that you did everything right.
To block a dunk you actually want to be behind them and jump when they start the dunk. Note that layups still need to be blocked from the front, so a smart player can try to choose the one that you're not in position to block and there's not too much you can do about it, but at least it's only 2 points.
If the ball is already mostly towards the net, it's too late to stop it (in real NBA, even if you catch the ball on the way down to the net, this is called "goaltending" and they still get the points. In NBA Playgrounds there's no goaltending but you still can't grab the ball). Unless they miss the shot, of course, in which case you can rebound, though rebounding is a little picky in this game.
I assume the LT + A thing is the Alley Oop, in which case what you do is hold LT to make the AI player go up for the alley oop, then press A to pass to them. It doesn't make the AI player try to block. They'll attempt this on their own sometimes but don't expect too much, if you really want to get the block switch to the relevant character and do it yourself.
