Multiplayer communication?

Just saw this on Rock Paper Shotgun, looks amazing and bought it.

Would like to play with some friends, I see that you can fly around a world together, is there any sort of communication between players in the game? As in, can you make sounds (bird sounds etc) or drop/give any visual cues etc?

Seems like a really zen game that I'd love to explore the worlds with friends but probably not on a phone call, would be nice to signal to them to follow/see something over here etc.

Hi Bills!

You sure can make tweet sounds (that also have a sound visual on your bird) and join up with friends! The servers are capped at only a few players (4 steam + 4 switch) but you can invite a friend to your current world if there is space.

If you want a private world, you can launch the game with the parameters:
-room <name>
Where <name> is what ever you would like to call the world. Then you can invite people or have them launch the game with the same custom room name.

Just to check, does this mean you can have 8 players in the same world and it's cross-platform? Or that both platforms have a 4-player cap on the number in the world? I'm expecting the latter, but just really curious which it is...

this means 8 can be in a server, but its max capped at 4 switch and 4 PC. If you create a custom room with the method above ^ you can set the player cap with -player <number> but your server will be private. (public randoms can't join) but friends can join you via steam invite or discord invite or manually setting their room code to yours.

Sweet! Is there a way to set the room code on Switch too? Or do you only get to make custom rooms with the PC version?

The custom rooms are currently only for the PC version.

I'm not sure my custom room is working anymore, I checked and the launch command is still there and before the latest updates it was working but I now seem to encounter other players in it unexpectedly (i.e. not the friends I play with)

I think it just puts you into a lobby with random other people, automatically, if you're connected to the internet.

If you want to play with another person you know, have a look at the pinned comment at the top of this thread and it shows you how!
