SOULCALIBUR VI

Why isn't the SC scene as active as Tekken 7?
Is it marketing?

Seems like tekken gets more DLC

To me, no one is better than the other; some are just more popular than others. I'd play any one of the various fighting games and have fun; street fighter - tekken - soulcalibur / edge / blade - doa - killer instinct - Fighter's history - Moretal Kombat - etc.; at some point in time (be it the 90's or early 2000's), I've played them all and have never not had fun. Do I prefer any one over the other? No, I enjoyed them all equally.

Do you like Bloody Roar? if yes what's your fav one?
Whew been a long while, hmm. Will have to look up the one that I played on youtube, but I can say that I like the series. Very fun

edit:
Okay got it. Bloody Roar 3 was the one that I played on PS2. I also loved Battle Arena Toshinden, all 3, however 3 is my favorite of the franchise with 2 being a close second.

hm...Just played SC6. Its definitely missing something. Its missing soul itself. I Feel SC2 was probably better. Tekken definitely has more support. It feels deeper. I can't explain it. There's no warm up room in SC6 while waiting for ranked matches. I also don't like Ivy's voice. the story mode is kind of boring. Graphically its pretty though.

I seriously wonder why namco and other companies don't port their old titles to steam. There are games I missed out of after not getting a console after the ps2. I never had a dreamcast so It would be nice to play Soul calibur on steam.

Harada-san already analyzed that 3D fighters are very high graduation ratio from old version. It is much different from 2Ds. If you want to Japanese retro games, Switch or PS has the most titles. I think it is no worth in business point to release on Steam as Steam user's bargain mentality.

For older SoulCaliburs, Xbox has most titles. We can still play.
SoulCalibur, SoulCalibur 2 HD, and SC6 are there.
SC5 is X360 compatible, but it does not work on Series X/S.
I have SC5 on PS3. But I'm not sure how long the hardware works.

Any how DOA manages to release all past versions on Xbox.

In response to the OP, It's actually always been this way with these two franchises. Tekken has always been treated at the bigger name. I'm old enough to remember when they were new. I think Soul Calibur just never got the kind of momentum that Tekken had, and that fact just never really changed. Soul Blade or Soul Edge (the precursor to Soul Calibur) came out right when the fighting game genre was quieting down in the late nineties, and Soul Calibur only came out on the Dreamcast, so most people never even played it. On the other hand, Tekken 2 and 3 both came out when the PS1 was exploding in popularity, just a couple few years earlier. So I'm guessing Namco looks at Tekken as the bigger brand and gives it more support.

I pretty much lost interest in Tekken the first time I played Soul Calibur. I always thought it become a bigger hit someday, but that never really happened.

I think you are on to something. Would add that Soulcalibur suffers from the same disease the developers never really fixed - bad gameplay design.

Overall, Soulcalibur has a nice idea. History, setting, characters, design, but bad gameplay design choices remained. Back in the day you knew technology is limited so you couldn't expect everything to be gucci, but nowdays people tend to get annoyed quickly and get rid of things that make them feel annoyed quickly. I experience that a lot. The developers are putting too many stuff in a game that built its popularity with simplicity.

Tekken feels like more grounded fighter, or at least more grounded than Soulcalibur. So such things are not as much noticeable as in Soulcalibur. And I feel Tekken is easier game to learn from the start up. With Tekken 7 I managed to beat people much higher rank than me when I started, just because my character felt almost the same as Tekken 5 version. I completed achievements in eleven days. And was mostly fooling around. For Soulcalibur Vi it took me around 50 matches to get my first ranked win. And I played SCII and SCIII on emulator up until the game was released, so I can stay in shape.

What I'm trying to say, the approach Soulcalibur developers take when they design games is not the one that will grant more popularity. The franchise simply miss a flair that franchises like Street Fighter or Tekken have. It's just the way I see it.

you might be right about the flair. SC is missing something like epicness

For sure, but not better, than T3)

It still the most epic "modern" fighting game.
But it must have more epic stages (not lame dark maps! drop them already) and better intro/outro for characters at the start of the battle - in that way, that person, that do not know SC at all, still can get the idea, what character is.
Sometthing like in Granblue Fantasy Versus.

T3 changed everything with Hwoarang and Jin.

T4 was a little wierd

T5 and tekken tag brought it back and peakness at T5.

I thought Soul Caliber 2 was very good.

Awesome, I'll keep that in mind if I ever get the GameCube.

I have a working PS1, PS2, and SNES and was thinking about buying either the Sega Genesis or GameCube. I'll probably grab the GameCube first and then a Sega Genesis later on.
