Frame Drops Regardless of Settings
Hello,

So I just downloaded this game and I have been having massive somewhat frequent frame Drops on PC.

Specs:
GTX 1080 FTW
Ryzen 3700x
16GB
Windows 10

I've made sure I have the latest set of drivers, set it to full screen, turned v-sync on. I've checked online and they're are videos with weaker machines able to run this game in 4k maxed out. So why can't I even get it to stay stable at 1080p lol. When I reset to default settings, it defaults to Max settings for me. Anyone have a solution here?

try verifying gamefiles.

Frequent or always ?

If always, disable V-sync in game settings (you can enable fast or adaptive V-sync in Nvidia panel).

Otherwise disable Nvidia Ansel, Antivirus... any program that could mess up with games :)

Check Windows 10 is updated also

I run 60 fps on all high with no difficulty (1050ti i7-8gen 8gb ram) check your drivers and verify integrity

Disable Nvidia Ansel.

I've tried everything in this thread so far and no luck :(

I have an RTX 2060 and the only way I can get the game to run smooth with my monitor, is to put it in borderless windowed mode. V-sync on. and I have to set regular V-sync in the Nvidia driver for universal settings.

With my HDTV, full screen and regular V-sync.

The game seems to behave differently, with different displays.

I'm using these. My PC is weaker than yours so this should work. I'm getting 59/60/61 fps in game (some frame drops in menus and during match loading - this was regardless of setting I used)

Settings:
Fullscreen
V-sync off in graphics setting enabled in Nvidia panel, Maximum pre-rendered frames set ti 1, Power management mode set to Prefer maximum performance.
Render scale 100%
Antialiasing - maximum
Postprocessing - high

*In Folder Users/YourName/appdata/local/SoulcaliburVI/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/Scalability add the following (these are for post processing being on High)

[PostProcessQuality@2]
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0

*
Shadows - maximum
Texture - maximum
FX settings - low

Still having same problem

I did everything in this except the scalability file edit. The file seems to be empty.

Matterfact a good chunk of the files in this folder are empty

Scalability is empty by default, you need to enter those lines in (DoF can cause slowdown), then set file to read only (read only files can only be read, not edited). @ means which post processing setting you are using (3 being max, 2 high, 1 low 0 disabled).
Your PC is good enough to run this game so I can't quite get why those issues are persistent.

One thing you could also try is to find older drivers and try them out.
Try setting antivirus (if you have one) to avoid scanning (add excepiton) SoulcaliburVI steam folder.
Defragmenting your hard drive is a possible option.

No dice. I'd like to avoid rollback old video drivers if possible solely for one game. This is the only game that seems to be having this issue.

Edit: I'm beginning to question if this is a AMD vs Intel drivers thing. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the game on a different drive with no luck.

I just remembered one more thing. If I'm not mistaken Enable hardware video decoding in Steam settings/Interface can cause slowdown in some other games.

You could try that too. I have no more ideas what could help. Those I listed are ones that helped me avoid extreme slowdowns.

Does anyone with a new ryzen CPU have this issue?

I have a co-worker who says this may be due to taking shortcuts with the engine where it works fine with Intel but not with Ryzen CPUs
Cerberus Aug 21, 2019 @ 5:01pm
I have a Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1070 TI with a minor overclock. No overclock on my CPU and 8 gigs of Geil (cheap) ram like 2400 or something like that.
144hz and 1440p with g-sync on or off.
I have no issues with resolution scaling maxed out or set to 100. All settings set to high also. There seems to be something else bottle necking your setup. I would watch task manager or download one of the programs to help better diagnose that. By all rights your system should probably be outperforming mine.

Set up MSI Afterburner.

At 1440p, my GPU never went above 40% usage. My CPU stayed below 10%. Nothing is overheating. My RAM usage stayed at normal. This isn't a bottleneck issue

Edit: The only asterisk I feel maybe i should add is i didn't track each thread/core individually. I just had the overall CPU usage monitored

Edit 2: Sucked it up and tested with all 16 cores monitored. One of those stayed around 40 to 50%. That's about it

Then the next best guess is that there is a conflict like was mentioned prior. My machine is weaker than yours and my gpu is nearly always very high in afterburner and I have no problems in most games. And definitely not in SC. I am sorry I was unable to be of assistance in this issue. I am interested to see what the problem ends up being as my brother in law has a similar issue with seemingly no explanation but when trying to go to 4k from 1080p, and he has almost the exact same specs as your own. So it should be able to handle that jump as far as any of us can tell. So I hope you figure it out and hope to see a post of what happened as it may solve others problems as well.
