They are advertising it will include games from PS, PS2, PS3.
I'm not sure how they implement.
But if it is integrated to Playstation 4/5 framework, I wonder they may open up all games from PS1.
If it happens, we may be able to play all SoulCalibur games on Playstation.
I hated SC5 for the characters. Patroklaus and what's her name were whiny and pathetically weak minded protagonists. And the character I wanted to see the most, Kilik, became a reskin of Charade that randomized fighting style character. But only the male fighting styles... why? I hated SC5 because none of the characters had a fighting style I enjoyed and forcing me to play the worst 2 characters on the roster to progress the storyline was annoying.
SC6 improved on fighting mechanics by ditching the reboot; fighting styles were tweaked (for the worse) in the reboot but had enough of the old combos to be recognizable. That's an improvement. Is that enough to warrant quarter-assing the story mode, copy-pasting decade old assets behind a paywall and locking core fan favorite characters behind more pay walls?
SC5 was a bad game for it's character design. SC6 was bad for everything but it's character design. As a whole SC6 failed on more fronts than SC5 did. That's how I can objectively say SC5 was less bad than SC6, I look at the big picture and grade it on all the facets of it's game world. Character design is a core feature of this type of game and arguably the most important aspect of the game... so you be the judge on which game was less of a failure. SC6 improved on the most important aspect of the game but at the cost of everything else about it's game world. Was it worth it? I didn't think so.
this. Soulcalibur fans are just whiny and entitled. This is why the series struggles to survive for more than one game at a time.
SC2 is best played on XBOX.
Its called SOULCALIBUR II HD Online and is upscaled. Best graphics for SC2.
*Full offline functionality is there despite the online name.
SCIV is still best played on XBOX360. No backwards compatibility.
However, I don't bother playing SCIV since there is no ai vs ai play.
Its a glaring omission.
For SCV, it was rejected upon release because they changed up the characters too much.
I initially rejected it too.
In hindsight, its actually one of the best SC games.
Especially comparing to SCVI.
------------------Other Thoughts/Opinions----------------------------------------
SCV really is the best for offline VS play.
It has way more(>25) stages and way higher quality(multi-tier dynamic) stages too.
By comparison, SCVI stages are static and lifeless.
SCV is best played on XBOX360 console.
Currently, the RPCS3 PS3 emulation still needs some work to catch up.
SC3 on PCSX2 emulation is best SC single player experience overall.
So much content.
A remaster of SC3 on modern console and PC would reign supreme.
For SCVI, other than modern graphics of Unreal 4 engine, a complete letdown.
It has a "B" grade budget feel, especially when comparing to previous games in the series.
***Actually, with its static and lifeless stages not even sure it can get get a great graphics score.
**To be fair, I guess complete letdown is not accurate, the character creation is probably best in series.
LOL wow.
I really enjoy SC6 for the custom character creation, but I have virtually no interest in the story mode (Libra of Soul). I wish it played like SC3's story mode; Chronicles of the Sword.
I loved the boardgame/miniature war game style and mechanics of Chronicles of the Sword.
As far as I am aware it is only illegal to distribute stolen digital content in the U.S., Japan, and Europe.
I am not aware of any laws against emulators, as there are groups in the states and Europe who make emulators for old game systems. As making an emulator is not illegal. It's only illegal to redistribute stolen digital goods, heck it's not even illegal to receive stolen digital goods in most places.
Which is why most people who make emulators say what the emulator is for, and how to use it. Though not how to get the digital content you would use for their program.
Yes there were other issues with the game like half the cast just being replaced with newbie randos. My point is that if you grade the game purely on the how mechanically and technically solid the fighting was, SC5 is the best.
