How do I get rid of the K and G indicators, so it actually shows my controller buttons?
I'm using an Xbox controller, and the move lists show K and G for certain moves.

How can I change this so it shows A and B instead. I don't understand who thought it was a good idea to use K and G when no controller has a K or G button. I want the game to show me A and B so I know exactly what I need to press.

How do I change this, please?

A/B/K/G has been a mainstay of SoulCalibur for years, kind of like how Dead or Alive uses P/K/H/T. Many fighting games use their own notation rather than actual controller buttons.

Is it annoying for new players? Yes. Can we change it without mods? Unfortunately not.

Hmm. Very strange. I'm brand new to fighting games (well I played them 30 years ago in the arcades). I guess I'll just have to remember what's what.

So K is always the B button, and G is always the A button (for default type a setting)?

What does K and G stand for?

It's functional name.
A = Horizontal attack (any how)
B = Vertical attack (any how)
K = Kick
G = Guard

If you get used to play with arcade stick, Type-B setting is suitable.
Type-A is more for game pad.

On arcade controller with Type-B:
Thumb = A button = G: Guard
Index finger = X button = A: Horizontal attack
Middle finger = Y button = B: Vertical attack
Ring finger = RB button = KL Kick

A+X (buttons) is throw.

These are kind of standard for 3D fighters (Virtua Fighter, DOA) but not Tekken.
So you can adapt other games easily.

A, B, K, G indicators are superior to gamepad buttons. Different gamepads/fight sticks/keyboards all have different names for buttons, so it would be a mess to discuss moves/combos using those nominations, people won't be able to understand each other most of the time.
A, B, K, G on the other hand are universal across platforms and imput devices, since they reference actual in-game actions, not imputs.

It's not strange, it's right.
Don't think about buttons of your controller, think about what you actually do.
If it's written →+K, it means to perform this move I need do forward to my opponent and kick. And it does not matter what I'm using right now: a gamepad, an arcade stick or a keyboard.

SoulCalibur's ABKG notation goes back to its arcade origins. It's really not hard or even inconvenient to adjust. Translating between notation and button pressed becomes second nature in no time.
