As a Setsuka player (new player to SC VI) I have no idea how to deal with pressure.
I've been practicing a lot, studying moves, and generally trying to learn the ins and outs of my character, as well as how other characters play. I know Setsuka is a hard character to pick up, but I'm no stranger to complicated characters in fighting games, and doing well with them (Brad Wong in the DOA series, and Lei in Tekken).

What's been really pissing me off is that there is something very fundamental I'm not understanding about this game, because I keep going up against Nightmare, Amy, Seong Mina and Voldo players, and they NEVER stop attacking. I can't even seem to tech up off the ground, because as soon as I try anything, I'm suddenly stuck in another combo loop.

What's worse is that I'm trying really hard to reset things back to neutral when people are applying non-stop pressure, but doing things like 2A just to get them to stop, but it seems no matter how long I wait for them to stop doing a combo so I can punish, I just get knocked out of it anyway.

So i seem to not only have a problem punishing people (even though it seems I'm trying to punish their unsafe moves and combo enders with my fastest moves), but I also seem to do no damage. I'll do a big 7 hit combo on someone like Nightmare twice, but then he'll do his stupid lunching drill attack and now I've lost the health advantage. It's driving me insane.

I don't know about Setsuka gameplan, but I have an advice, It's pretty bad, but I still give it. Don't try hard to punish your opponent. First, the game has 8-way run system. You can dodge verticals and hit an opponent while they are trying to attack you. Also, the game has Guard Impact. If you GI a heavy attack, you'll return the game to neutral, and if you GI a medium or light attack, you'll open your opponent. If you're on the ground don't try get up fast every time. Sometimes it's better roll or even to lie down.

Against the people it keeps putting me against, if I lay down or roll, I'm immediately losing 25% of my life as they just abuse the ♥♥♥♥ out of me. If I miss a tech up, I'm pretty much getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ unless the game actually puts me against someone my own skill level.

So far, I've been fighting an awful lot of A and S players as someone who just made it to G5, and that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. Against most of these guys I can't even get an attack in before they react to it, dodge it, and full punish me where I never regain control of the fight.

Did you ever played soul calibur broken destiny? Might want to push ck it up for gauntlet mode.

I think down on SC6 is a bit more difficult to recover compare from other 3D fighters.
DOA is much easier with just kick button.

If you practice with Legendary level (can be unlocked by clearing AC with Very Hard), I think you get use to more pressure.

Movement mechanics training is at Drona's Dojo in MISSION: Libra of Souls.

I still think my biggest problem is that this game's matchmaking is completely jacked up. I just keeps putting me against players who are A and S, and I'm not learning anything from losing to them, because I can't even keep track of wtf they're doing to me. They just go bananas with combos and I can never roll out, side step, or evade / block what they're doing.

Just use a lot of 2A (Best 2A in the game) and move when you have the frames to do so.
You also have outstanding CH's on 6K and 6B, setsuka should be struggling to stop someone from moving on her offence but not to play deffensively, gotta figure her out a bit better

Isnt there a replay function?

Yes, but I have no idea what I'm looking at, or what I could have done differently. Even my brother, who fluctuates between B1 and A3 will review some of the games where I'm against an S1 Ivy, and he's like "Bro, she just guessed and ducked / sidestepped everything you did"

Well its normal since ure new cant expect to have a chance vs a's etc who have probably been been playing for years, and sc is alot different to doa, tekken etc....
Setsuka is also one of the most complicated char so give it some time, and the right moves will come more naturally eventually.

Have u looked in the museum ? theres some useful writeups about what u should be aiming at for beginner, adept, master lvl for each character.

Yeah, i've been slowly sticking with it. I wouldn't expect to be hanging with vets in any fighting game as a new player, but it's also not helping that like 99% of the people i am going against in ranked are not only way out of my skill league, but they're also complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who t-bag when they have the health lead in the final round, then t-bag after they win, then refuse to rematch because the match was kinda close.

One Seong Mina player beat me in the first round, and I suppose she rematched me for easy points. I sort of noticed her patterns and then beat her in match 2. We did a 3rd match, and she adapted to what I was doing, and I was like "Hey, we're having a good match". She beat me pretty bad early in what was the final match, and then just stopped actually playing and just t-bagged me for almost 30 seconds before beating me, then t-bagged and refused to rematch.

Its strange because i rarely come across tbagging in sc6, mustve been weeks now or months even... And i play almost daily, could be bad luck or its because I'm in eu region and that just happens less there.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was more prevalent in NA, because that's just how it can be.

Then again, I don't know why, but French players in games like Hunt: Showdown are some of the saltiest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I've ever gone against.

I understand. If you like to play and learn, Steam's player base might be too low for low ranks. So it may end up difficult to learn the method (play and learn).

So you may need to change different way to learn on current Steam.

Or get console version as well. I have PS4 and Xbox too. In case, even without hardware if there is possibility.

Low rank player base is Steam < PS4 < Xbox, because SC6 is included in Game Pass.

But Steam is would be best platform for lowest input lag (except player base). Both PS4 and Xbox delays 1-2 frame by controller input lag only. If you are OK with matching any rank, then Steam would be already best platform for you.

Player base cannot be controlled, but changing or adding platform can be done at individual level.

One addition.
Rage quit ratio is PS4 < Steam < Xbox

Genuine advice:

Block. Block and also move. Moving is so good in this game. Just don't ukemi, unless you know it won't be an ukemi trap. Setsuka has really good tools to keep out, for example 3A, while a bit slow, is a mid, TC horizontal. Very kood. Also 4A.

Dealing with pressure in this game is tough. But there are options. GI, movement, panic moves- Study your tools. IN this game there are rarely super big + frames.
