Algol VS Azwel; Should Algol return?
Impressions, which of them you like more or less, if you want Algol to come back, etc...

I chose those 2 characters because they are dual wielders of soul calibur and soul edge at the same time. Well, Azwel is more like a combination of Necrid +Algol + Archer from Fate stay night but you get my point.

In my opinion Algol was cool in his design but his personality was meh. Azwel is like the joker, he is a crazy psychopath with some depth once you start paying attention to his reactions. You can perfectly understand Algol, whether you agree with him or not, but it's hard to understand Azwel. He is more complicated.

Now people is starting to ask Algol to return to Soulcalibur in the next dlc or the next season pass and I don't know, I would prefer lizardman chief, yunseong, or whatever. And it would be hard to fit into the story, I don't know.

What do you think guys?

Nah, we don't need Algol. There is enough magic bs in the game already.

This Algol thing started with the recently disclosed silhouette, which at first sight looked somewhat like him. Overall, there still seems to be more elements suggesting Hwang is the final S2 character, as previously leaked.

Several characters I'd prefer over Algol tbh. I also feel Azwel covers his playstyle and plot function in this game. Not to mention that Algol is a main series antagonist, so it'd even cheapen him to be added as DLC, where you play as him but not against him; he should be saved for a sequel, unless there's a story expansion.

Algol also placed very low on that official popularity poll. Even characters who are generally perceived as not popular, like Rock, Li-Long and half the SCV roster, outperformed him there.

Because, if to add Algol, it's better to do it now. Season 3 needs some strong character for the start, and starting it with Hwang can boost sales. Just who is good to sell Season 3? Aeon? Rock? Dmapierre? Lol.

OK, I'm quite bias their though as an Algol player. Azwel feels for me as poor replacement for Algol. Azwel is good, but he has different playstyle.

Yun-Seong as the most popular character left (according to the poll) should be the S3 pull. Even with Hwang, it'd be very interesting to see how they'd differentiate the two characters and to have both fully-fledged in the same game.

There's also Viola or at least her style.

Setsuka's Chronicle teased a possible new evil character, while Groh's new side mission mentioned the 'Lady of the Lake', who had already got a nod in Amy's Chronicle. Same character maybe?

Lizardman and/or a mimic are also good options, not so much for their popularity but for requiring a lot less work.

I'm ok with adding Algol eventually, but he should come with a (main) story expansion.

If there's a S3, I'd say a shorter/cheaper season might be a good idea to try, considering the pandemic and how well this 'slim' Tekken S4 pass is selling. 2 characters, an extra (Lizardman or mimic) as a season pass bonus, a S1-like CAS set somewhere in between, and a new stage for around 15-20 EUR/US would probably sell much faster and better than the overpriced S2, regardless of contents (which are never revealed in advance anyway). Throw a new stage variation, a fun classic game mode like Team Battle and roll-back netcode with the free update, and I honestly don't see it not succeding.

First, season 4 is not cheaper. At least in my coutry.
Season 3 of T7 had 3 characters and a stage.
Season 4 of T7 has 2 characters and 2 stages.
They have the same price.
I believe Season 3 for SCVI will be 3 or 4 characters. And Yun-Seong after Hwang I doubt will be a good decision.
Stages, btw, was free for SCVI.

That's a regional pricing issue.

T7 S2 (6 characters, one stage): 29.99 EUR/US
T7 S3 (4 characters, one stage, a 'feature'): 24.99 EUR/US
T7 S4 (2 characters + 2 stages): 14.99 EUR/US

They clearly shouldn't go for another +30 EUR/US season pass, that drove a lot of people away from the get-go. Break it down into two shorter/cheaper ones, and it will sell better.

Yun-Seong shouldn't be the 1st character in S3, that I agree. But he should be a shoe-in for S3 regardless.

Just to add, S4 for T7 will be treated as having as much as S3 has. It has 2 characters, because the game already has 49 character (50 with Kunimitsu). People are tired to learn all this MUs.

Oh, thanks. Only now I've noticed S4 is broken for my country.
S4 is 899₽. Kunimitsu is 199₽ and her stage is 119₽. The next stage and character will be priced the same. So, 899-2x(199+199)=263. What am I 263₽ paying for?

Algol should return IMO. Yes, he and Azwel both use summoned swords, though Algol A: has actual kicks, B: uses his throne as a weapon and C: overall seems like a shorter range fighter barring projectile use.

And as the thread creator mentioned, Azwel is a complete psycho and the difference in fighting styles between him and Algol reflect this.

Algol does not have a massive movelist, and at least feels like as a less complex character, compared to Azwel.

Great feedback, guys. You made me think more about Algol. Honestly, yeah, he is cool. I wouldn't be angry if he appeared in the game but as some of you said, what could you make with the story then? He is too big of a fish. You need to make him an enemy, someone imposing.

BY THE WAY, about the next season pass, I like how the story is working and I am actually quite interested in watching the secret enemy of Setsuka, the woman that corrupted her master with the fragment. That would be a great addition for the first season 3 character. Or maybe not, because only people that played the last season pass would know about her?

I want new characters. I didn't notice until know. I really want new characters, characters that use new weapons and different playstyles. I used to say that I wanted Yunseong, Lizardman, Viola, etc... but now I don't. I want NEW characters.

first of all azwel has nothing to do with algol, i am really getting tired of people saying that daddy azwel is equal to crusty long nail algol.
Ranmaru Rei Nov 17, 2020 @ 11:27am
Actually, I'd believe a good prehistory that makes a stage for a sequel would be nice for Algol.

Yes, they're very different but many people like to compare them because of the idea of their styles: they're both are who can simultaneously wield Soul Calibur and Soul Edge. But they use them differently and have different personalties.
