SB: Sophitia & Taki
SC: Kilik & Xianghua
SC2: Raphael
SC3&4: Siegfried
SC5: Patrokolos & Phyrra
And given that 6 is basically a reboot of the series... Or a completely alternate timeline, given what Zasalamel envisions and given Cassandra encounters her SC4 self, trapped in Astral Chaos and telling her of what happened during the events of Soul Calibur 5 and Sophitia's shard issue.
Mitsurugi may be the closest to a Ryu in the series. He's arguably the poster boy of SC, and he's basically all about perfecting himself as a fighter, which appears to be a common theme in Japanese protagonists.
I think Siegfried is Ryu. And Nightmare is Akuma or Evil Ryu.
as much as i love SCV for Viola. when i see those two names as the leads i understand why i'm spat at in the community.
Trust me... I wasn't exactly giddy to know that the the story mode focuses on both of them. It didn't help that Patrokolos was, in all honesty, a terrible protagonist.
To me he'll always be the Ryu or righteous main character of the series even if he did start out as a mere skin swap. Exposure aside, his story always revolved around peaceful means of protecting the ones he loved, whereas Mitsurugi pretty much did not give a damn whether or not anybody in front of him lives or dies; he kinda had his own outlook on how someone can be royally ♥♥♥♥ out of luck.
